“Very Average accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

The YHA in Bangkok was probably the worst accommodation that we have stayed in on our travels of South East Asia. However the staff are most friendly and helpful.
I would probably recommend paying a little bit more money and staying in a nicer place. The rooms were very small, and this place did not have an en-suite bathroom.
Also, there is no lift to the floors, nor is there a hand rail up the stairs.

I wouldn't personally stay here again given that other accommodation is pretty cheap. But if you're on a budget and need somewhere to crash for a night or two, this is definitely the place. Location is awesome.

Room Tip: Make sure the windows close all the way. When it rained one night, the water came pouring in to the...

I booked this YHA hostel expecting the same standard of the more modern YHA hostel on the Sukhumvit Road. It was disappointing: narrow stairs which really should have guardrails in places, cramped washing / shower area and arctic air-con made for a somewhat challenging stay.TWe had to chase up clean towels from reception as there were none in the room which had one window that wouldn't close properly. Otto, the guy on the front desk, is, however, one of the friendliest and most helpful people you are likely to meet on your travels. In my view, this place needs total renovation but is adequate if your standards aren't too high and you're only using your room as a crash-pad.

Room Tip: At least find one with a window

I cannot recommend staying at this hostel. There were some little animals in my bed that bit me all night and I was allergic to them. Also, the rooms are really small and air condition doesn't work. Showers are only cold. Staff was not really friendly. And if you're unlucky, you have to haul all your luggage upstairs to the fifth floor without an elevator. Next time, I'll rather spend some more money and stay at a decent place.

We booked before we arrived in Thailand as we had been using YHA in New Zealand. It appears NZ is far superior. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was adequate but the shower and toilet were awful. Cockroaches all over the place. We were supposed to stay 2 nights but found a lovely hotel for our second. Decided from this point on we wouldn't do budget accommodation in Thailand and haven't looked back!!

Staff very friendly and helpful. Air-co broke and I got an upgrade to an even a better room, Hostel is simple but clean and very good located. Just behind it you have a local place with Thai breakfast (50BHT) and a night market with some nice Thai restaurant. The BTS (metro station) is 3 minutes walking, 2 station from the river to get the boat to reach the historic center. The room are very small but you do not go to Bangkok to spend your time in the room anyways. The room are decorated with wood Thai ornaments. I have been traveling around in many places and believe me this place was surprisingly quiet. Did not need my ear plugs. The air-co sound covers any annoyance. Indeed the showers doors do not close but it is a double doors so when it is free it is simply open. So no-one will come in thinking it is available when you shower. The staff ask you not to keep food in the room if you do so then don't be surprised to have eventual intruders. Good value for price.

Room Tip: Take an air co room because you need it when it is 40 degrees and more than 50% humidity.

The couple that runs the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was small, we booked the budget double room. But the price was right and the location next to the BtS station was great.

Breakfast was good and for us it wasn't too loud. The walls are thing, we did not have loud neighbors, but if they talk you will hear it for sure.

The tour packages were a bit pricey so I'd book tours elsewhere. Kinda quiet around the hostel for nightlife. If you walk 5 minutes in any direction you'll find things to do. Staff were very helpful directing us around.

It's close to the skyrail, so transportation is not a problem. Noise from the skyrail however is very bad, so bring earplugs! The showers and toilets are also pretty bad, and it's not possible to close and lock the doors! And the beds are not very comfortable either. On the positive side, the staff are super friendly and helpful, and you always feel welcome.
