We met Som a couple of years ago on our first visit to Bangkok at her bar on Soi 22 called Denny's, we spent alot of time in the bar and got to know Som had a gueshouse close by. This year we took her up on it and from the moment we arrived were made a complete fuss of. The guesthouse in very well located with easy walking distance to the sky train and more importantly Denny's bar! The rooms are very clean with everything you need, comfy bed, TV, AC, Fridge and ensuite shower room with towels. Breakfast is very flexible and is really good. Som even invited everyone who was staying to a Thai banquet one evening which she had cooked herself and it was amazing. We also got to know Soms husband Jeremy who is a great laugh and very entertaining. Chum is also a little diamond and made us feel very welcome. I would have no hesitation in recommending Soms and Denny's to anyone and have got to say that the amazing hospitality for me was the most important thing of all. Thanks Som, Jeremy, Chum and everyone at Denny's. Hopefully see you again soon. John and Gordon

Room Tip: We had rooms 8 and 9 and were great

We stayed at Som's Guest House 18 months ago and were very pleased with it so planned to stay again this trip. Then we read the previous bad review and got a bit nervous in case it had changed hands. Decided to give it another go and very pleased we did. The sheets were not only clean on arrival but were changed every two days, clean towels every day and room cleaned every day. Som is still here and she and all the staff are friendly and helpful. Cooked breakfast every day (included in price) and free wi fi that works (as well as free internet on their computers), also free luggage storage while we travelled South. It is an older building and it isn't 5 star but neither is the price. The rooms are big and the downstairs lounge/bar is always welcoming. You can walk to BTS. For budget accommodation in the middle of buzzy Bangkok it has everything we need

Dirty room, dirty sheets.I honestly don't think they had been changed from the previous guest. You could see mucky marks on bed sheets. Also, the previous guest had been a smoker,as you could still smell smoke every time you entered the room.

After I checked out from the Honey House Hotel, I went down the street to Som's. Not as conveniently located as Honey House, but not too long a walk to Sukumvit Rd. Since I was trying to check out of Honey House, I was trying to check-in at Som's at 08.30. But this presented no problems. When I walked into the lobby I startled the woman catching a few zzzs on the lobby sofa. Not a strange occurance when traveling the rest of world and staying in guest houses or hostels. The attendant promptly showed me a nice, clean, very large room with a long window across one wall (not a great view, but not and ugly view either, what can one expect for 800 baht only one or two floors up?), a huge built in cabinet / storage shelves on another,a strangely out of place overstuffed chair(s?) , a full sized (for asia) fridge, can't remember if it had a fan, but an air con and somewhat well worn but clean bath. Everything had seen it better days, but all was clean and functional. And that was that. "I'll take it." For 800 baht, you can freeze your tushy off in the one of the biggest guest house room's I've ever been in.

But that's not why you should stay at Som's. You should stay at Som's for Som, and for her ? husband ? boyfriend ? partner ? Jeremy. They are why you should stay at Som's. Not only talkative and friendly, but both are a wealth of info and opinion on where to go and what to see in Bangkok. A good example was Jeremy's warning to sit towards the back of the water taxi. Yes you should and I did. Plus if you're lucky and time it right, maybe Som will make you some of the best Thai food that I've been lucky enough to eat in my 10 plus trips there.

The rest of the staff is great as well, and I enjoyed my 30 hours of being a part of their community immensely. So please pass them my regards if you are lucky enough to meet them.

Old rooms. Old furniture. In a toilet water proceeds. A very poor and bad breakfast.

The main thing! The dishonest relation of the owner of it guesthouse (her name - Som) to clients. We have check in early in the morning only for one day.

With the owner (Som) we have agreed that we will pay for only one day. An important point: we did not bargain, and have paid the price for day which the Som has told. But! Same morning the owner Som has suddenly changed our arrangements and has declared that we should pay not one day, but for 2 days. And how our arrangement???

Threats, false calls to police, scandals have begun. Thus we lived only one in guesthouse! I so have understood the Som wished to earn simply still some hundreds bat.

Disgustingly! At the same time there were any strange european friends of the Som who supported scandal the owmer. So we do not recommend this place. The bad relation with tourists.

It is located in Soi 22 of Bangkok, in the quite but exciting section of the town. just a short cab, walk, or motor, to market, shop’s, bars, tours, banks, ATM’s, parks, museums, or shopping centers. Quite a way from the International Airport but in Bangkok what isn’t? The cab ride for me was 250/300 baht with tolls and tip. Som’s Guesthouse is welcoming and attentive but not for the faint of heart since there are quite a few stairs. I think you will find that in all of Thailand or the Far East stairs are a part of life. It is a home away from home and don’t be surprised to be sharing breakfast with other travelers from France Germany Australia Belgium Austria England US and Malaysia. Large rooms with air-conditioning and very attractive rates for budget travelers. Each room has fridge, Cable TV, hot water and shower. Services including internet cafe, postal service, and onsite or very close by are currency exchanges, flight ticket reservations and reconfirmation, visa extensions or applications for visas for Cambodia and Vietnam. Same day laundry if collected very early. A daytime room service is available to cater to you and will help with any travel expectations, even a safe area free of charge for Guest's luggage while I was on trip. I choose Som’s because it was a great deal for a world traveler on a budget. They have continental breakfast of bread, egg, butter, jam, fresh fruit, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Very clean and comfortable rooms, cable TV, good and friendly services. The room rate includes breakfast. It stands in the shadow of several huge hotels including Queens Park Hotel.

  • Liked — Most of the staff, but like every where there are those that just dont seem to be helpful.
  • Disliked — Stairs
