Owner description: The Maokong gondola stops at Taipei Zoo, Zhinan Temple and the Maokong station. The Maokong station stop at the top of the mountain offers a panoramic view of the city and visitors can try delicacies like noodles with tea oil and glutinous rice with bamboo shoots.

“No need to go”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2013

I thought it would be like The Peak in Hong Kong. I was wrong. There is not a suitable place to see the view of Taipei. Nothing much to do up there. We accidentally found a scenic place with a small lake. Only that. Had a rest at a restaurant but the view was not very good as seen in advertisement. It is a bit far from the city too. Not recommended to go.

“Jumble of tea houses”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

The views aren't that great. But I suppose it's as good as it gets in Taipei. Nothing compared to the views at the Peak in Hong Kong. So if pressed for time, can skip. Endless rows of shops, mainly cafes, restaurants, teahouses.

“Cheap ride”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

Nothing can beat public transportation in Taipei, very good and cheap. 50NT$ for 20min gondola ride. The view from cabin is exciting but the cabin glass is somehow dirty.

When you get to the top of the mountain, Taipei can not be seen easily as restaurants already occupied the hillside.

Try to get to another side of the mountain if you want to watch the sun set (follow the sign to Star Cave ?? i dont really remember). Be careful as most of signboards in this area is in Chinese only.

“Great place for a hike”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

Hiking around Maokong is great, but I'd skip the gondola ride and take a motorbike. The teahouses are a great place to check out the night view and get a bite to eat.

“It is a good view point, by far from city”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

You can find a lot of restaurants and tea houses with a great view.
If you do not like to drink some tea, you should go up the mountain, the view point is interesting but you have to climb around 800 meters. The taipei 101 was not to notorious because is a little far.
The view from the elephant mountain is better.
