“Terrible..Don't go there!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

The Empress Hotel doesn't live up to its name. It's over priced and in a word 'appalling'.
We arrived a day late due to our HK flight from SF being diverted to Beijing and we're still waiting for our refund (2 weeks later) from the Empress Hotel.
The bedroom smelt damp and no wonder there was a large damp patch beside the bed. The very old carpet was musty and there were no disposable slippers to wear, just a pair of brown plastic slippers that looked like everyones foot disease nightmare. The bed was as hard as rock, painful. The lighting was grim, even with the lights on the room was dark. Drawing the curtains didn't help as it looked on to the other side of the hotel and an adjoining building. We itched all night but that could have been psychological. The buffet breakfast was cold and dismal. Go to the Y-Hotel, it's cheaper, modern, clean and a better location.

The hotel is quite expensive for what it offers, despite being located in a not so popular area. About 15 minutes walk from the Metro. Room was spacious. View was a backyard from the room that was not so pleasant. Only Oolong & green tea offered in the room. Coffee had to be purchased from outside. Reception staff provides travel information though dont seem to be that much service oriented. Serves only breakfast here & rather poor choice & same things repeated most time.
There are many 7-11s & Family marts & other eateries closeby. Wasnt a great place for a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Unless there is a specific reason to stay in this part of the city, better look for other hotels

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. It was comfortable and cozy yet basic. The breakfast was good and staff was friendly. The business Center was small with only 2 PCs but it was manageable. Asking the clerks behind the desk for taxi cabs were quite convenient without having to hail one from the street. A night market was close which makes it quite convenient. The a/c did not work very well and thus our room was humid. One thing I would say about the rooms is that they could have placed an outlet near the table between the beds for convenience.

Stayed here for 3 nights in August, the hotel was okay for the price. Location is not the best as you are not that close to any of the MRT stations and will take at least 25 minutes to walk to the centre although Taxis are very cheap and only cost about £1.50. The room was clean but very dated in decor and the Control consol was very hit and miss as to what worked or not. The Air Con was very good. The room had no view what so every apart from the back of a hosptial or similar where we could see an elderly lady who didnt seem to leave her bed. The included breakfast was shocking, very very limited choice. On a plus note the bed was very large and comfortable and the front office staff were very helpful. There was a local night market offering good cheap food and some local bars surrounding the hotel.

Basic budget/business hotel, clean and well maintained, fast internet by cable (no wifi) , it's 10-15 mins walking from the closest MRT station.
Breakfast is japanese style buffet, basic toast coffee/tea and some hot/cold dishes, but we had only one paid in our reservation, not their fault and I don't mind, but it's something to check with your booking website/agent.
One problem is that the AC is quite noisy, and you can't set the temperature, it's on or off.
And all window are simple pane, so you get most of the outside noise, on the back it's big AC units, on the front it's street traffic.
So if you don't mind the noise or have good earplugs, it's a OK hotel.
