If you're looking for budget hotel, don't expect any frills at Paradise.

Well located on the edge of Ximending on Hsi Ning Nan Road. Probably around a 10 minute walk to subway. Obviously easy access to Ximending food and shopping.

As I said the hotel is old, and despite requesting a room in the new wing, not sure if I ended up there, and it seems there's only 1 building, not 2, therefore visible new or old wing.

I was booked into a room at the end of a corridor on the 2nd floor. Lobby has low ceilings and dim. Appears that the management attempted roccoco look, but failed.

Room itself was on small side. Fine, as a single traveler. Was given room with twin beds parked side by side, when on the booking it said that I would be given double bed. Does double bed in Taiwanese mean two twin beds parked side by side?

No bathtub in bathroom. Handheld shower with drain in the floor so that yes when you shower floor is wet.

Room has damp musty smell - hmm wonder why (low ceiling, lack of good ventilation, old building).

Oh and btw, I got a room without any windows, in the new wing!

Reception service was basically profunctory by unenthusiastic staff. The only one who cracked a smile was the pretty younger girl who spoke fluent japanese.

The cleaning ladies were friendly and efficient. They made beds and changed towels everyday, even though it wasn't required.

Overall the hotel is relatively inexpensive, and in a good location. If you can wrangle a room with a window please do, as I spied rooms with doors open for cleaning and it helps to have some natural light.

Oh and the doors are very thin so you can hear people speaking in lobby corridors very clearly, and possibly vice versa!

Folks, i think the largely favorable reviews has been quite misleading, at least for us.
I pretty much got a slap in the face from my initial expectations

- smoke smell in room
- internet is only accessible from the lobby's Wifi signal. There is no internet plug at all in the room! and I already stayed in the newly renovated wing! This has to be my first from years of traveling!
- furnitures and decoration look rather dismal. For example, the leather sofa set in front of tv is cracked, the carpets are discolored, the cabinets are so old they are warping and bloated (from moisture) in some places. The marble fountain in the main lobby is cracked and held by tape, shocking.
- Rooms are poorly insulated from noise. I can hear clearly people talking in the corridor in my room.
- found a towel stained
- i can do without the big mirror right beside my bed

only good thing i can say is that it's well located....although i also see many other budget hotels in the area like Wonstar
