“Great location, small room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2012

As most of the previous reviewers will have pointed out, I think this hotel's main selling point is the fact that it is a 5 minute walk to Taipei Main Station, the transportation hub of Taipei. I was a little skeptical when my boyfriend booked this place as I had walked past it on previous occasions and had not paid much attention to it because of its older-looking facade, but I was pleasantly surprised.
The hotel staff were all very friendly, and many spoke good English. The room was well set up and comfortable (flat screen TV, sofas, dresser), the bathroom was fine but the room was small. We got a Standard Double and beyond the bed there was around a meter to two of walking space all around. The shower also seemed to be designed with Asian guests in mind because my boyfriend who is 184 cm had to slouch to get under the shower head.
Not much change in the breakfast selection, although there is a decent variety of things to choose from: some breads/butter/jam/yogurt, and much more Chinese style foods like sauteed vegetables, congee and noodles.
It worked out for us though, because we spent so little time in the room.
Enjoy Taipei!

We got recommended to the Cosmos Hotel by the travel agent we bought our tickets from. We were rather skeptical at first but the it turns out all wrong!

Taipei Main Train Station is just 5 shoplots away, 7-Eleven is also another 4-5 shoplots away, right across the road is HSBC (in case you run out of $$$) :)

Huge array of selection for the buffet breakfast but again, you will never go hungry in Taiwan!!

Enjoyed our stay. Very close to Taipei Main Station exit M3. Only 5 mins walk to airport bus. Our room was on the small side and had a musty smell. Nice buffet breakfast. Very helpful staff who spoke good English.

My wife and I just returned from our trip to Taiwan and we stayed 4 nights in Taipei Cosmos Hotel. As mentioned in some previous review, this hotel is wonderfully located just besides the Taipei Main Train Station so you can take both the MRT and HSR (High Speed Rail) very conveniently. As the Taipei Main Train Station is interchange for the several MRT lines, going to Ximenting (one stop away) for Shihlin Night Market, Beitou Hotspring or Dan Shui Park is a breeze. Service is excellence and all the staff are very friendly. Room facilities/amenities are fully furnished and it even have an electronically controlled auto-bidget toilet seat. I bet this feature will be very welcome during the winter months as the toilet seat can be warmed. Breakfast spread is good although it would be better if there is some changes in its varieties from day to day. After 4 days of the same breakfast spread, it gets a little monotonous. Wifi in my room was great as we stayed in room 519. Definitely good value for the tourist money.

Room Tip: Not sure whether all rooms have electronically controlled bidget in their toilet seats but try to as...

I stayed in Cosmos Hotel for 3 nights in a quad room for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 elderly) during our visit to Taipei. The booking was done on the hotel website and I managed to book a discount rate which included the buffet breakfast.

The hotel is situated next to the Taipei Main Train Station where the high speed train (for the west coast of Taiwan) and standard train (for the east coast of Taiwan) can be found. The entrance (M3) of the Taipei subway system is just a minute walk away as one turns right when exiting the hotel. This entrance has escalators for both up and down directions, making it convenient for elderly travelers who have problems with stairs.

We arrived in the morning after an red-eye flight and unfortunately, the check-in time for the hotel was 2 pm and we could only store our luggage with concierge and came back after lunch for the room. The hotel staff is generally courteous and one of the bell-hop is extremely helpful as he offers to bring us to the hotel restaurant for rest and provides tips on how to engage a cab for day tours.

There is a tour desk in the hotel lobby that organizes day trips but we did not use. The hotel offers free wi-fi service but the connection was rather bad in the late evening, making it almost impossible to access the internet.

The quad room that we were offered was not very big and had 2 queen size beds. It was not new but was clean and neat. There was a dressing table, cabinet for clothes, a safety deposit box, a small fridge, an electric flask and TV. (It had about 20 to 30 channels instead of the usual 100+ channels found in other hotels) The bathroom had a bathtub and all necessary toilet amenities were provided. The room was air-conditioned and the sound proof system was good. Unfortunately, there was no heating system and the room could get rather cold in the night due to the cold and wet weather in Taipei during our stay.

The breakfast buffet included was good as the spread includes both oriental and continental selections.

Overall, the stay was a pleasant one and I will come back to this hotel again the next time if I travel with the family. I recommend this hotel for its great location for travelling both within Taipei and to other parts of Taiwan.

I do not ănswer the question, "how to preserve individuality in the face of crowds?" because it is a rhetorical question. Cosmos Hotel has a good location, good price, and the staff are genuinely polite and helpful -- but the latter is generally true of Taiwan (Taiwanese service staff are genuinely better than their counterparts in Asia). Because of the strengths of the hotel as listed, the hotel has high occupancy rates, especially from tour groups from China, from Hong Kong, Singapore, and elsewhere. If you don't mind herding along with the masses, this is the hotel for you. If you find masses are loud and ill-behaved, you may think twice of staying here. In other words, the success of Cosmos Hotel may be its own shortcoming. The worst crowd is perhaps breakfast tour groups who scramble for seats and food, and you feel you're in a factory. You might as well eat outside the hotel, because Taipei is famous for "little eats" (snack places in informal settings that are all over the city, particularly across the hotel/main station). So if your travel agent booked a room for you at Cosmos without breakfast, you haven't missed much.
One thing of note: most hotels in Taiwan (and Vietnam) offer free Internet through computers in the lobby. Cosmos will give you free wifi in your room, but if you did not bring your laptop, you have to pay for Internet usage at the Business Center on the top club floor.

As most reviews have already mentioned, the location of this hotel is very convenient, so I won’t dwell on that. But what I will remember about this hotel is the excellent service. It is one of best that I have experienced so far. In particular, the Guest Relation Officer, Murphy, who was very friendly and helpful. He gave us tips on where to go and how to get there. When we returned to the hotel at the end of the day, he would ask us where we went and if we had enjoyed ourselves. On our last day, it seems the whole hotel was there to see us off to the airport. They got us a taxi and ensured that the driver got us to the correct terminal at the airport. I don’t mean just the bell-hop, but Murphy and his whole gang. So, Murphy, if you are reading this, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to you and your men … well done :)

The hotel and the rooms do look a little tired, but more importanly, but it is clean and well maintained. They gave us 2 triple room (1 queen and 1 single bed) for the four of us, so the rooms were spacious. I noticed that the shower head in the bathroom is quite low. That might be a problem for taller guests. I guess our window probably faced some other buildings so they had a poster of the Taipei skyline covering the window (see photo). I thought that was weird. The bed was a little on the firm side but was comfortable enough. Only thing is the TV reception is poor and limited Englisht channels. Free wifi is a plus.

Breakfast was quite good with a selection of western, Japanese and local dishes. Other than breakfast, I didn't try the other restaurants in the hotel.

If I were to return to Taipei, I would definately stay at this hotel again.
