The Room
The room was old, the toilet was tiny. Housekeeping was excellent though. They were very efficient and they make sure your room is clean and tidy.

The Food
Limited choice of food for breakfast, but still hot when I went down at 830am. As it was raining in Taiwan for the past few days, I had steamboat buffet at the hotel. It cost NT 600+ per person, however, the food was not really fantastic. The best part is, the crab was not washed thoroughly. Totally disgusted when I saw the dirt on the crab... *imagine this crab has been soked in your steamboat soup*

The location
If you don't like budget hotels at XiMenDing where you will meet noisy tourists, this is the hotel for you. The Min Quan West Road metro station is just 5-8mins away. However, you have to walk quite a distance to the Qing Guang Market.

The Service
To be fair, the service rendered by the staff were ok, (Although most of the time, I have to open the heavy glass door myself). The staff were polite, but not very helpful when I asked for directions to Din Tai Feng, she just gave me a map and vaguely told me the directions.

Check-in and check-out was quick.

Another thing is, given the amount I paid to stay in this hotel, I am surprise to know that I have to pay NT$100 for 1hour of internet service. And the computer there was really out of date. It practically hang on every single click for 3mins. In the end, I gave up and only used the computer for 5minutes. The computer is on 14th floor, very secluded and personally, I don't feel safe in there. (In fact, Empress Hotel which is ard the same area, offers free internet service and their computers are so much faster.)

I went for 7 days trip with my families. We arrived at Taipei on the 5th day. And was check into Santo Hotel.
Once our bus stopped outside the hotel, staff came out to help us with the luggage. The hotel lobby was not very big, but the place was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated with Japan Style.
Hotel room was clean and well maintain. Cleaning up of the room was very well done, no complaint about that. Hotel breakfast was buffet style, taste was average.
I quite like the location of the hotel, its quite near to mrt station, its about 10mins walk to the station. There's bakery shops and 7-11 store around the area.
The hotel rate was quite reasonable. I will consider staying at this hotel again for my next trip to taipei.

Santos hotel is a convenient 5 min walk away from the nearest MRT station and within walkable distance to many roadside stalls and eateries such as McDonald's and Mos Burger. There is also a 24 hour 7-11 10m from the hotel entrance, which is great.

However, I found the breakfast for Santos hotel to be disappointing, perhaps the worst out of any hotel I have stayed around the world so far. The dishes are cold, uninspired and there is a lack of variety ( I stayed for 6 days ). Perhaps it's the fact that I always came down after 9am - one hour before closing time - and I seemed to have missed all the better food. But there isn't even a dedicated chef to cook eggs for you, something I've never seen in any other hotel anywhere.

The room is a decent size, but has a hard mattress. The TV only has about 20+ channels, a real step down from another hotel I stayed in which had 100 over channels. But this shouldn't bother you if you 1) are a businessman and 2) don't speak Mandarin. The TV is a nice LCD set, though. The bathroom, is functional but seems a bit utilitarian to me - it's lit up by bright flourescent lights which really do not add to any atmosphere. Also, I read in a website that it contained a gym and checked in expecting one - no, it definitely doesn't.

The service is good, though. The receptionists did go out of their way to answer my many questions. They even surfed the Net in order to find a telephone number I required and retrieved it for me promptly. All in all it is a decent hotel with not so good facilities but promising staff.

This is a hotel you can highly consider if you plan to stay in Taipei. Price is reasonable enough for the room. Room is average in size but the bathroom is spacious. All the basic facilities, e.g. internet, in room dining, are available. The convenient store is right beside the hotel. Very quiet at night, but if you have nothing much to do, you can just walk for 2 minutes to the train station and head to Shilin night market, which is an eye opener for first timer. Food is great, and breakfast has a wide range of selection, though the servers are not that receptive.

I stayed here 2 years ago, my son Mike stayed in November 2007. The best thing about it was the terrific spa. Men only (Don't panic, they're all normal) and it's included in the price. If you're European, stay away from the salad..but that's true wherever you go.
