A week's stay at the Riviera Hotel in Taipei has left me very charmed and pleased with the services at the concierge and business centre. This is truly a boutique hotel catered towards simple and quiet visitors to Taipei. The main drawback would be that the location is quite a walk from subway stations (it is right between two stations), but it is still advantageous for business customers who take cabs as the expressway exit/entrance is very close-by.
The breakfast buffet, however, is not something to write home about. The selection is poor and lukewarm at best. The yoghurt and juice are also at room temperatures. As a stickler for food being served 'just right', it was quite a drama having to request for a chilled can of tomato juice every morning. But as with good service, by the third day, the cans of juice were automatically chilled and waiting for me by 8 am. The good service somehow can make up for almost anything.
The rooftop gym was spartan and the roof grounds were a little too dusty to lay any yoga mats or put deck chairs. But it was nice and quiet without many other hotel patrons. The hotel rooms were standard in quality, size and deco.
If I can't get my regular business hotel at The Landis Taipei which is close-by, this would definitely be my second choice as it is highly value for money.
