“Dated interior but best value in Taipei”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2013

The hotel is situated in a very good location. You can get to all major attractions within 6 to 10 minutes. The interior is really dated, but for the price, you could do a lot worse.

The property is in the middle of updating everything. We stayed on the floor/wing that has been recently upgraded. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and with quite high cealings.

If you're looking for a good deal, this is the place to book.

Room Tip: ask for a recently renovated room. Executive floor is good. 12th floor.

I had apprehensions when reading the reviews on how old and smelly the hotel is. I am here on business and stayed at the executive rooms on the 12th floor. My room is clean and spacious, without the smell. I believe some of the rooms are renovated as mine looks quite new. It is clean, comfortable and they provide an executive lounge for breakfast, complimentary 2 hour meeting rooms and happy hours, where guests are being provide free tidbits and drinks. Overall, this is not a bad experience and I would recommend this hotel. It is also quite strategically located.

This was my eigth visit to this large hotel in Taipei. It is very well situated, only a five minute walk from the MTR station.
The rooms are spotlessly clean and of a very generous size.I was actually upgraded to a suite which was an added bonus but the standard rooms are good and well equipped. The rooms are quite well soundproofed so corridor noise is unusual. Bathroom of a totally acceptable standard. The lighting is just ok.
Breakfast buffet is very good usually, unless you want breakfast at the same time as a large tour party-of which many use this hotel. On these occasions (frequently) they do struggle a little to keep everything stocked up.
I have not used any other restaurant in the hotel, but i hear they are quite good.

We were here for three nights. We could tell the day we walked into the lobby the first time that it really caters to Asian guests on a budget and not Westerners. We had come from Shanghai where the hotels are far far superior in both class and offerings. The breakdown of pros and cons is as follows:

Pros:
Downtown close to 101 and other businesses. Reasonably priced. Comfortable beds and very polite service. There is a club room where if you have access you can get some decent food and free drinks. A comfortable work area on the club floor. You can also check in on the club floor if you are staying on the two executive floors. Within walking distance of American chain restaurants which are pretty good if you are tired of Asian food. We were after three weeks of eating only Asian foods. The AC in the room worked very well unlike Shanghai and the room was a decent size.

Cons:
The hotel lobby smelled as did our room of some awful smell every time we walked into the room. Almost a sewer smell. The bathroom has weak shower spray so it takes longer to bathe. The food served downstairs in the main restaurant is barely edible. Everything at breakfast is cold. Whether it is suppose to be hot or not. The entire hotel is run down with torn carpets, frayed furniture and in desperate need of a paint job. You can see the water stains as well along the walls which could mean mold because of the climate. Is not some place I would recommend unless on a tight budget or would I return.

Arrived here during the night on the 8th Nov and stayed here for 2 nights. Came because it's part of a CTC tour package. Hotel looks grand and when we entered the hotel, wow it was large! My family was arranged for rooms 937 and 936 on the 9th floor. The rooms were at the circled shaped area and therefore the room were a little larger in interior than usual. The hotel itself has 5 lifts for guests use which is sufficient enough. The rooms we got faces the back alley and usually it was quiet. Free WiFi access is available throughout the whole hotel but WiFi in the rooms required a unique PIN number in order to access the Internet, which is provided with the room card envelope. The room seem a little dated but still sufficient. There isn't much interesting TV shows available on the TV too but sometimes there is. The bathroom is quite spacious too with a bathtub available. They also provide a tea sachets, sugar packs and coffemate for guests to use. The room attendant did quite a good job in keeping the room clean and tidy too.
Had breakfast for two mornings in the hotel. The breakfast served were in a buffet-styled and there were a great variety of food available and foods were replenished quite quickly. The service in the restaurant were also quite efficient too. Do remember to come down for breakfast not so late as foods variety would get lesser when time goes.
Spent some time strolling along the hotel and there was some souvenir shops available too. The thing that came to delight is there is 7-ELEVEN available in the hotel which is very convenient. There is one cafe shop which is owned by the hotel too. To my surprise that there is an IKEA store at the other side of the hotel! It is at the basement of the hotel. There is a shopping mall just right close to the hotel and it has a department store and a McDonald outlet at there too but the mall opens at 11am and we were there at around 10 am so no chance to get in.
Taipei Arena(台北小巨蛋) is just a junction away from this hotel which is great for concert fans who came from overseas to catch a concert there.
Overall the hotel is great and decent and for its price it's quite great in Taipei City and would reccommend it.

Room Tip: Choose rooms that faces the street and Taipei Arena but if you want some quietness you should choose...

Central Taipei location, very clean rooms and excellent breakfast buffet. Just renovated, and much better than I expected for the price! Very helpful employees went the extra mile when my flight was delayed by the typhoon - they spent at least 30 min on the phone with the Delta rep.
