“Very good hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

I've been to Taipei four times, every time for more than a week.
I've stayed twice at this hotel, both times on the executive floor.
Views in Taipei are generally not fantastic.
For this hotel, on the one side of the building you get a really ugly view from the windows, on the other side of the building the view is not so bad and farther.

Staff: very friendly, really very helpful, they speak English.

Room: nicely appointed and decorated. Nice marble-floor entrace area, large comfortable bed. Bathroom is spacious, with bathtub and a large walk-in shower. And a Japanese-style toilet, with all amenities such as various bidet functions and various temperatures on your toilet seat..... :-)

Breakfast: The only odd thing of being on an executive floor is, that you're not allowed to have breakfast in the normal breakfast hall but you HAVE to have your breakfast at the executive lounge on the highest floor. However, it's very nice there. And you can watch plane taking off from or landing at Taipei's SongShan airport
There are very few people, so you're having your breakfast almost alone. They have a small but very good selection of freshly-cooked Asian breakfast dishes, along with European standard options. Then they cook your eggs fresh to order. And they're happy to serve freshly brewed coffee and really good espresso and cappuccino. Fresh for every guest. That's a big plus.

Room Tip: High floor

This is my 2nd choice hotel in Taipei whenever I'm on business trip to Taipei. It is located at Lin Sen North Road. This place is more popular among the Japanese tourists. The rooms are newly renovated and most of the furniture and fixing are new. The staff are friendly and speak good English and Japanese. Upon checking, the counter staff provides a map around the hotels where you can find post office, supermarket, Watsons, telecoms shops, MRT station. There is a day and night market about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel comes with a free Wi-Fi.
The hotel also serves a good spread of quality breakfast. It can be rather crowded if you are late. There is a Chinese restaurant on 2nd floor which serves good dim sum. Prices are reasonable.

I have read the reviews of other fellow travellers, which are mostly positive. I have mixed feelings about this hotel. First of all, It is indeed well located in Taipei. On their website they claim to be part of IHG hotels, but when I showed my Priority Card (now changed to IHG) nobody knew what I was talking about.
I found that the cleaning of the rooms was fine. I had a problem in the first room they gave me. The toilet had a crack on the side and it was leaking every time I flushed. They promptly changed room, same spot but two levels up. These rooms, which end with "04" are really small and classified as semi-double, I would never recommend such an accommodation to anybody. Besides being very small, there is just one tiny window in the whole room, and on the right side of the bed there is not even a bedside. In some of the other reviews I have read that the rooms ending in "17" have a similar reputation, so I guess it has to be the rooms in certain corner of the hotel.
Having said that, the staff have always been kind and helpful so the service was good. However if I had to stay in this hotel again, I would not settle for the same room. In my opinion they should not offer such an arrangement at all. It diminishes the average level of the hotel without doubt.

Room Tip: Never book rooms ending with "04".

People are friendly and helpful, clean and comfortable rooms, well situated.
Always happy to return to this place.
May not be the fanciest place in town, but has a homely feel to it.

Missing a pool, but there is one 10' walking distance.

I really like this hotel. i've stayed here various time over the last few years on business trips and I keep going back. There are more luxurious hotels for sure, but this one feels quite homely now.
Everything is getting a bit old now, the restaurants in the hotel aren't brilliant, and are very expensive, but it is in a great location with loads of local restaurants around.
The staff are friendly and helpful, most of the rooms are a good size (avoid the number 17 rooms on each floor, they're very small), there's even a pretty good souvenir shop on the ground floor.
The hotel is in an "interesting" area, used to be where the US troops were based, and there is a bit of a red light district, with "piano bars" abounding, this all adds atmosphere, and I have never felt threatened in anyway, any time of the night or day.
The metro station is five minutes walk, and of course the taxis are really cheap, just make sure you remember to take the card with the hotel address in chinese on it, to get back again.
The Malibou bar around ghe corner is a nice place to relax, with friendly staff who all speak English, food not bad either. Sometimes you have to take a break from the Taiwanese only places...

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms ending in 17

My stay at IHG Imperial Hotel was one of the best I ever had. It can be best described as a jewel in the crown of Intercontinental hotel group. It is a relatively new hotel with modern facilities, extravagant restaurants and 24 hrs coffee-shops at very good location. You can expect the best service from staff. Though, it was a bit expensive on the other side but really worth the experience. I highly recommend this hotel to all tourists and businessmen as well.

The Imperial Hotel in Taipei is an excellent choice for a business or leisure stay. Great location in the heart of Taipei. Convenient access from Taipei International Airport via car/bus/mtr, about 45 minutes. Service by staff is first rate and very courteous. The rooms are comfortable, roomy and quiet. Breakfast Buffet is an excellent start to the day. As previous reviews have noted, the tub/shower is not the normal US design and requires a high step to enter. Staff is most helpful in guiding you through your visit to Taipei. Front Page bar, 1st floor, has evening happy hour for unwinding.
