This hotel is definitely ideal for budget travellers in search of an accessible place to stay within Ximending at a low cost. I stayed in ECFA Wan Nian with another traveller for two nights in February 2013. The room cost about SGD$72 a night, even more affordable if you split the cost with your travel companion.
How to get there
Very accessible and convenient. ECFA Hotel Wan Nian is actually a mere five minute walk away from Ximen station Exit 6, but can be a tad tricky to find because it's located on the 6th and 7th floors of a shopping building in the middle of Ximending. When you get out of Ximen MRT station Exit 6, walk straight past the Watsons, and keep walking straight past a long lane of shops, till you reach a zebra crossing. Cross the road, turn to the right and walk straight past the lane of shops, and keep a lookout for a bright blue sign with the hotel name- the sign faces the road, so you need to keep peering outwards while walking. Stop when you spot the sign, you'll find yourself at the entrance of the hotel, and take the lift to the sixth floor to check in. The 7th floor is only accessible to hotel guests with their keycards, so it's quite safe and secure. Breakfast is also provided, but I suggest you skip it and have some breakfast street food instead. Their lu rou fan is not bad, though.
The room was very spacious as compared to other budget hotels, and was kept spick and span. Huge bath tub. If you're the sort who needs a room with a window like I do, make a special request.
Because it's right in the heart of Ximending, the famous boutiques, shops and eateries of the commercial district are all very accessible, within walking distance. Family Mart is just opposite, and fast food eateries such as McDonald's, KFC, etc are all nearby. MRT's a short five minute (or less) walk away. Though Ximending is pretty quiet in the morning before 11am when the shops open, I managed to get breakfast from a random street stall selling classic Taiwanese breakfast food.
A great budget hotel that's clean and accessible-within reach of great shops, eateries, and the MRT station. Definitely will recommend it to my friends.
