“A good place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights - one bed dorm (TWD550) and twin sharing shared bathroom (TWD1200) per night. Bathroom and toilet were separated. Clean.

Location is about 6 minutes walk from Taipei Main Station. Very good locality as TMS is a hub of transportation in Taipei. From TMS exit 8 through Caser Park Hotel, walk straight towards the traffic light with diagional crossing, cross to the other side, you can see McDonald, walk towards it till you see Mos Burger and then turn right. About 50m away is FFH. As we were early, we needed to wait until about 10.30am for the staff to turn up.

Nearby, there were many small eateries and shops. Very convenient.

One issue I had was the heavy pounding of feet at the above floor which was quite annoying during the night.

Booked thru Hostelworld - excellent position next to transport, multiple options for eating. The staff were so friendly & helpful; atmosphere cosy; rooms & bathrooms clean & comfortable - stayed there at the beginning & end of my trip - would stay there again. Street noise quiet after 10-11pm

I booked this hostel from hostelworld.com. The staff emailed me shortly with the map of the hostel and also to find out my arrival timing at the hostel. FFH is an excellent hostel to stay in. The hostel is full of character and there are many postcards and writings that guests leave behind pasted on the walls about the hostel. It was quite a nice atmosphere which encourages guests to interact with one another. Staffs are multilingual and helpful. Official check-in timing is 3pm but you can arrive earlier and leave your luggages with the hostel first. Check out is at 11am. No breakfast is provided, but you can easily find breakfast at the shops near the hostel on the way to Taipei Main Station台北車站. Wifi is provided and you can also use the laptops (only 2 sets) at the communual area if you require internet access.

The Location

The hostel is located in Taipei Main Station台北車站, which is good if you are heading to other parts of Taiwan from Taipei, as the Taiwan Railway台鐵 and High Speed Rail高鐵 only departs from Taipei Main Station台北車站 in Taipei. To get here from Taoyuan International Airport桃園機場, take any of the buses from the bus station in the airport. All bus companies have buses heading to Taipei Main Station台北車站. From Taipei Main Station台北車站, follow the map given by the hostel to get to the hostel. I have to admit it took me some time to find the hostel as there was no obvious logo or sign to indicate the hostel. You have to look out for a letterbox which states "Happy New Year新年快樂" in chinese.

Rooms and Bathrooms

I stayed in the female 3-bed room. A locker with a key was provided for each guest in the room. Room was quite small and rather squeezy if everyone was bringing big luggages. There was hanging racks for each guests to hang their personal clothing. The dorm beds do not creak - good for sleeping. However, the mattress was rather thin and I could feel the wooden boards underneath the mattress. It would be good if they would invest in better mattresses. A face towel was also provided free-of-charge if you need one. Bathrooms were available in every level. The toilets and bathrooms were located separately, so there was no need to queue for the toilets while another guest was bathing and vice versa. You can also go to the toilet/bathroom on another level should those in your level be full.

Shopping and food

There is a whole stretch of shops underground at Taipei Main Station台北車站 for you to do your shopping. There are Y, Z, K sections of the underground mall, it is like a maze and you can easily get lost in here! Recommend buys over here are the shoes where you can get a pair for NT200. You can also find adventure shops near M7 of the exit if you need adventure gear. Google for more specific directions, please. Plenty of food stalls and bubble tea can be found in between the hostel and M8 of the exit. Do visit some of the "visually impaired masseur 按摩" shops in Y section of the underground mall for some good massage and some good karma. The massages are affordably priced and do wonders for an aching body.

Summary

Excellent hotel with great atmosphere. Staff make a point to introduce and explain the rooms to all guests and hostel is clean, secure and at a great location. If you bring a postcard to write messages, you get NT30 off your stay. So bring one if you are intending to stay at FFH. I will stay here again when visiting Taipei!

We arrived Taipei very late at night and the late night check-in instructions were really good. (Not to mention the booking process which was efficient and trouble-free). The location is easy to get to (surely with great directions from the hostel). Our twin private room is very small (not a problem for just a night stay) but the beds are very soft and comfortable. The room is next to the shared bathroom so it was very convenient for us. I personally don't like the fact the toilets are mixed sex. The cooling fan in our room is quite scary but the room equipped with air-conditioning so we didn't have to use the fan. Free wifi works fine. The common room is cute and spacious, unfortunately we didn't have time to spend in it.

Arrived very late and left early in the morning so we didn't meet the people who run the hostel but I guess from what they arranged for us that they are great! We did see they have a great coffee machine.

I stayed in this hostel last December when I did a short trip in Taiwan. This is the first time I tried the hostel there and fortunately I got to stay in this fabulous place. I arrived very late that night which was after the check in time and the staff was so nice that they gave me directions to get to the place and left the key for me when I got there. I booked one bed in a 3-bed room and turned out being the only one in that room, which I enjoyed a lot. The room clean and nicely decorated, though the safe is a bit small. The common room is very spacious and comfortable to spend time there. During the day the staff played music there and you could really enjoy staying there using computer or reading books. Location is good as well where there are many restaurants downstairs and not far from Taipei Main Station. Overall it's a very nice experience and I definitely would stay there again!

Only stayed here for a night unfortunately, but the experience was great! The staff were very polite and helpful when we arrived and in recommending places we could visit in Taipei. Stayed in a dorm room which was very clean and comfortable, with space for luggage and free wi-fi (as well as free internet downstairs). The bathrooms were well maintained, and on our floor there was two separate showers (both with hot water), a separate toilet and a separate sink area which meant that you never had to wait. The communal areas of the hostel were fantastic and very well equipped with TVs, sofas etc. And finally, the location of the hostel was great. Some good eateries around the place, and very close to the train station. Well worth the money, and a fantastic place to stay.

i had a good stay at FFH- the location was central and convenient, the staff very welcoming and friendly. most importantly of all, the hostel is very very clean and comfortable. Definitely a value- for- money stay. i was on a round island taiwan trip and stayed in 6 hostels/hotels during that time. This was definitely the cleanest
do hang out in the communal area - it's quite fun to interact with the other guests. but if you prefer some privacy, you can always head back to the room.
