The texture of the chicken was good, taste was good. Another recommended dish was xiao long bao. Yummy!

“A better alternative to Ding Tai Fung”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

If you are tired of the long line and the relatively higher price at Ding Tai Fung, you may want to try Ming Yue which offers equally good dumplings at better price. The place is also less frequented by tourists so you have a better chance to get a table without waiting.

“Must try the 'pan fried dumpling'”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

Crunchy crust with juicy meat inside the dumpling. Worth to try.

But the seating is a bit pack, we went at 5:30pm and already pack with ppl. Suggest to avoid peak hours.

“Possibly the best in taipei”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2012

The food is certainly as good as Din Tai Fung, if not better. However, The line is much shorter, and the prices are lower. What's not to like?

“A local's perspective”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2012

While strolling through the crowded Tong-Hua Night Market, like Ding Tai Fung occupying the corner of Yong Kang Market, Ming Yue takes a corner of another popular night market.

So the rest goes on like copy-cating the success of Ding Tai Fung.

Ming Yue does have a probably only second to Ding Tai Fung's XLB (Tang Bao) in Taipei, but the overall offering including the service is way off.

The beef soup has beef unevenly cut.

For some desserts like sweet yam, customers have to grab them as self-service, a lot confusion.

Tea has never been re-filled even when the maids noticed customers are starting to enjoy the desserts.

..... the list of unhappy dining experience can go on and on. Remember their price mark is beyond the everyday affordibility for an average local citizen.

Avoid to follow the current TA ranking and presume you'll have a marginally worse appetizer tour than one will get out of Din Tai Fung.
