“A dark hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

I stayed in this hotel in July 2012 with two friends.
We booked a room for three people thru travel agent. However, we found that they only added one extra bed in a twin bed room to us. The extra bed was not comfortable.
Room size is small.
Everything in the room only prepared two sets instead of three until we requested the hotel to provide. Service is not as good as we expected.
Hotel location is good, walking distance to Taipei Main station is only three mins.
Even though the hotel is a stylish boutique hotel, the lighting is too dark to me. I lost an access card in the room and could not find it back.

I had a buffet lunch in the hotel. The food looks good in "outlook" only. The seafoods were not fresh. Crabs were deteriorated and even had bad smell.

Hotel is situated across the Taipei Train station and inside a shopping mall, which provides great shopping, restaurants and foodcourt for cheap eats. There is a Jasons supermarket at the basement of the mall and many stalls selling local delights which is great for gifts to frds and family back home.

Hotel is very elegant albeit alittle dark, and exudes a medieval kind of feeling at some point. Corridor leading to rooms is lined with very plushy carpet which really ups the luxury factor.
Room was well apointed and big, and we love the open concept. We had a 6year old princess with us, but daddy isn't worried abt exposing too much flesh in the shower/tub, as there is a curtain which you can draw.

Only shame is the need to pay for wifi, which is quite sad as most cheap hotel provides it for free. Other than that, it gets my full approval.

The hotel is stylish but a little dark and pretentious for my taste. Good location, especially if u need to take the high speed train to other places in Taiwan. It's 10-15 minutes taxi ride to all popular places, like 101, 忠孝敦化,中山區。15 minutes walking distance to night food market, yum!! Great big buffet breakfast selection.

The free tea bags in the room are awesome!!

The cons: lighting in the room is a bit awkward, especially if lady needs to put on make up.

Like many boutique hotels, some standard things are sacrificed for style. There is no clock in the room!!! We got one from housekeeping at the end.

There is no door for bathroom and toilet but a big drape. That's fine, but my friend could smell the odor when I did my big business. Embarrassing!!

There is so much use of carpet and drape all over the hotel. Even the ceiling is covered with carpet. The cleanliness was ok during this trip but I will be worried about dust mite and dust. Especially if someone is allergic!!!

This is a very nice 5 star hotel. Classy decor, modern room, excellent service, perfect location. I'm surprised this place didn't cost us much more! Free wifi if you join their hotel club (free, you just have to fill in a form with your details). I agree with some of the other comments here, it is a little dark in this place. Be sure to check out the bizarre 4 minute workout machine in the gym.

The hotel is within walking distance to the Taipei Main Station and the bus terminus. For travellers who intend to travel around by TRA, HSR, MRT, taxis and buses, this hotel is located in a super convenient area.

There are many affordable eateries on the second floor of the Taipei Main Station, such as the beef noodles place, the "Second Floor Cafe" etc. The Q Square food court and restaurants provide plenty of choices as well. Hence although we were armed with a whole list of food places to try in Taipei, we did not end up spending too much time looking for food all over Taipei.

We stayed in a clean and quiet family room on the twelve floor, away from the elevators. When we look out of our hotel window, we were able to see the outdoor temperature indicated in one of the buildings and the view of the city. Overall, service was acceptable but not great.

My 2nd "girls' trip" to Taipei two years in a row. Last year we considered this hotel but in the end we went to Hotel Quote - which was also excellent. This Palais de Chine is very conveniently located. During our trip we were mainly taking taxi (since we had 4 persons), but there was one time that I had to take metro and the station was so close to the hotel! The check in process was not very fast since we were joining their membership (and got free internet access). The lobby was nice and there was a restaurant next to the lobby. From what we heard, they are well-known for their afternoon tea. The rooms were also new and clean. We had some problems with our internet and they brought an extra modem to us and solved the problem right away. There were some packages being sent to our rooms and they were delivered timely. We asked for direction and the staffs were helpful. Overall, we had a great time there. I'd recommend this place to my family and friends.

location: just opposite to the taipei metro/train/bus station - the most convenient metro station in taipei, immediately next to a shopping mall with lots of eateries

check-in: super slow, but at a nice and dark lobby on the upper floor, a bit of european style, many nice decorations.

room: quite large in taipei, comfortable bed, quite dark but stylish, but a bit inadequate lighting for bathing, no toilet door just a curtain which was quite difficult to use.

breakfasts: nice design in the restaurant, good service, quite a lot of choices, but standard quality.

overall worth the money.
