“Great (no windows) rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

I think this was the most affordable hotel room I could find within a week before arriving in Taiwan. The rest was more expensive and far from downtown.
Great location, close to a subway station. And then no more than 20 minutes in subway to get to the main attractions in Downtown Taipei.
Stayed 2 nights in a room with no windows (room with windows were not available at the time), good decoration, nice 40" flat screen tv with some western channels, free wifi at the room, and the bathroom has this "modern" w.c. with heated seat and more "gadgets" I tried to discover.
Good "eastern/western" breakfast, but I think it can be better.
And friendly staff.

Room Tip: I can't tell if the rooms with windows are quiet, but are better than the rooms without.

the most customers in this hotel are Japanese...the receptionists speak flawless Japanese and English , the breakfast was good and has also a lot of Japanese elements and if you dont believe me try the Japanese toilete at the rooms. I loved it. The rooms are clean , the bed comfortable and the bathroom is separated by a glaswall.the hotel itself is very new. but the highlight is definitely the toilet haha
The location of the hotel is ok. The staff and service is very good and nice . there are everywhere stations for trains and so on but I prefered the taxis in Taipei because they has also been very cheap. whenever I return to the city I will choose the same hotel!

The hotel is quite close to the metro stop. The neighborhood is not bad as some reviewers mentioned and seemed to be safe for everyone at any time. There were many Japanese guests at the hotel and generally they were very polite and quiet. The services of the staff were good although not overly warm. There were good varieties for breakfast although during the busy times in the morning, the kitchen staff were a bit overwhelmed and unable to keep up some supplies. The bed and pillows in the rooms are generally comfortable but maybe on the firm side for some. The bathroom is in good size although probably not too much people would use that big bath tub. Nevertheless there were two noticeable drawbacks, One was the insolation of the room windows and the door to the balcony were poor which allowed a lot of street noise into the room. The other was the existence of dust mites on the sofa and chairs given that those were very old and probably haven't been cleaned for some time.

..with a large walk in shower, japanese style toilet. The bed was comfy, there was a desk, flat screen tv, sofa and large wardrobe. The room and bathroom were very clean, no complaints there. Other usual room amenities were good- hair dryer, iron & board. Don't tend to use hotel complimentary toiletries but they seemed ok too.

My room rate included breakfast, which was a buffet in the restaurant in the basement. The decor was a little confused but the selection of foods for breakfast was pretty good (Asian and Western options, salad a bit puzzling), I think if I'd stayed longer, I would have gotten bored of it. Wifi was also included and had no problems with the connection.

Having a room with a window will cost you more, this seems to be a thing in Taipei but the view isn't inspriring and there was traffic noise as you would expect overlooking a busy city street. The upside to the street being busy is that it was never a wait for a taxi.

The hotel is fairly small but with 2 lifts and has very polite and friendly staff. Outside, there are at least four 7/11s, a McDonalds, sushi place and Zhongshan School MRT station. All on the same block. Very convenient but my colleague didn't feel as safe in the neighbourhood as I did (both ladies).

Room Tip: Rooms with windows may have traffic noise

The hotel is located very close to a metro station (Zhongshan Elementary school station). Moreover, there are several convenience stores and eating places at working distance. The concierge staff members were helpful and courteous. The hotel foyer was quite impressive, but I am afraid I can't say the same for the hotel room.

The hotel room (a windowless room on the fifth level) was spacious and well-equipped (had an iron, ironing board and the usual...) but I feel the interior was dated (e.g. had to use the electric extension socket). Moreover, there were certain areas where I thought cleanliness was an issue (e.g. stains on the bed sheet).

Lastly, there was a stuffy, musty smell when I first entered the room, which was a bit discomforting.

Stayed in the superior room. Hotel sense was a mere 5 mins walk from the MRT. Many shops and stores are located around the hotel, with Macdonald or 7-11 and Mos Burger. Hotel looked small on the exterior but the you will be blown by the massive room. Room comes with a ironing board and iron for regular traveler. Basic necessities are provided. TV on top of a rotating disc to allow u to watch shows on the living area or on your comfortable bed. Breakfast has limited choice. Gym are located at B2, and comes with acceptable equipments. Overall, a good experience.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

Hotel Sense is in a very central location in uptown Taipei. It's not near Taipei 101 or Town Hall or the more salubrious end of town, but its in a bustling neighborhood with quite a few restaurants, bars etc nearby - and its not far off the major expressway in from Taoyuan Airport, so its quite easy to get to. (Taxi fare from airport as at June 2013 should be about 1150-1200 TWD).

The rooms are also a pleasant surprise. They're large, with big bathrooms, and a clever interior design which places the minibar and flatscreen tv across the centre of the room on a kind of credenza, which thus divides the large space into a bedroom and a neat little lounge/sitting area for watching TV. There's a desk, a good sized wardrobe with safe etc., a large shower/bath areas with wonderful big Japanese bath and walk-in shower area.

So: very happy with the room, and quite pleased with the location. Why only three stars?

The staff. The staff were indifferent at best, and in the case of one young woman, absolutely rude and inept. If this is the best they can find, then Taipei is in serious trouble. If the management is reading this: TRAIN YOUR STAFF. Train them that when a guest arrives for check-in they should smile and welcome that guest, not chat amongst themselves and discuss how to refill a stapler or some such nonsense. Train them that when the keycard doesn't work, and the tired guest returns it to the front desk to get it re-programmed, they should smile and apologize, not snatch it away and then thrust another one at the guest without even making eye contact. Train them to make a bit of an effort and not look at the guest like he's ruined their day by patronizing their hotel.

Or the guest may decide not to come back. It's that simple.
