“Interesting historical site”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

A mishmash of original Dutch construction and Japanese renovation make this an interesting place to visit. Go up the watch tower for 360 panoramic views across Tainan.

“Interesting for Dutch history buffs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2014

Read ´Lost Colony´, the first war that the west lost from the east.
This was a large settlement by the Dutch, who lost the fort rather unfortunately to Koxinga, due to internal strife and poor diplomacy.
Not much is left, but it is a remarkably sized fort and one of the strongholds of the Dutch VOC.

“Very nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2014

It was really nice.. Quite interactive! It's a stop on the tour bus and it's 50 NT for adults and 25 NT for students and kids. Outside there is a nice market selling local crafts and yummy things to eat! It's worth a trip.

“Decent attraction”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

Since this is all about Taiwan's history, this attraction is certainly tailored more to those who are interested in history. In saying that, there is a good viewpoint from the tower overlooking Tainan. The museum is good too, with most exhibits written in English.

The market area surrounding this attraction is a good place for a bite to eat from many many vendors. From my experience in Tainan (and in comparison to Taiwan's other large cities) western food here is not as common.

“Where Taiwan began”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013

This site is not much to look at but the story of the history Taiwan provided is very interesting. You can walk around the grounds and there were a few exhibits and monuments scattered along the way. There was an old fort tower that you can climb up to get a pretty decent view of the neighborhood.

There are several exhibits and even a small gift shop that again I happened to find something that I liked. The exhibits near the gift shop are air-conditioned so keep that in mind of it's a hot day.

There are a lot of Dutch artifacts and I had no idea the influence the Dutch had in creating Taiwan. It was a good educational experience and a good use of about an hour or two.

You are a lots of shops and restaurants in the surrounding neighborhood to walk around. The Matzo Temple was also next-door.
