“The perfect venue for birdwatchers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

If you're looking for five star luxury in the outer reaches of Nepal with swimming pool, hot and cold running water, aircon etc. then this isn't for you. If you're interested in the wildlife of Nepal whilst staying with people who are dedicated to your service and well-being then this is the place, without doubt.

Accommodation is in permanent tents containing twin beds with blankets and duvets, together with a couple of shelves for storage, chairs and small table outside. Washing and lavatory facilities are in clean spacious blocks 20m away. Hot water was readily available at appropriate times of the day and fresh running (not drinking!) water was in abundance. No mains electricity is available and a generator is used intermittently during the day to provide all of the power that is needed. Rechargeable lamps as well as kerosene lanterns are supplied to every tent and proved totally adequate.

Food was served in a central building which was warm and comfortable and equipped with plenty of information of all Nepalese wildlife as well as charging points for all of your vital equipment. The food provided was very good and in ample supply. Tea and coffee seemed to be constantly available on demand, at no cost. Bottled water was plentiful at reasonable cost and the bar was fairly well stocked, considering the tendency of birders to celebrate that day's successes.

The position and situation was outstanding for bird watching as well as viewing other wildlife. A number of local specialities were readily found and some even photographed.

The owners of the camp, Nature Safari Tours, can organise all of your trip itinerary down to the smallest details and did a great job for us during our 18 day tour. If you are a birder or even interested in wildlife in general and want to see a slightly different aspect of Nepal then visiting Koshi Camp is a must.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2007

Spent 4 nights at Koshi Camp, on the edge of the wetland reserve called Koshi Tappu. Great site for birding, with over 150 different species seen (would have been many more if we were fanatical birders!). Accommodation in comfortable tents, with common shower block very near. They also have constructed a hide overlooking a wetland area, close to the camp. Great food and service, and not a single other tourist in sight. Would recommend adding a few nights at Koshi to any trip to Nepal. There is a 40 minute flight, from Kathmandu to Biratnagar, followed by a scenic 90 minute drive.
