“Great Location, Great Food, Great People... we'll be back.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2011

We traveled to Nepal to see the sights as a family. Was looking for a reasonably priced, clean hotel in a safe location. We found all of the above at Hotel Encounter. We stayed on the roof and had the place to ourselves. Loved the garden and the open air. The restaurant was a pleasant surprise with great food and more than friendly service. Probably the most impressive part of our stay was the friendly and helpful service. The people at the hotel, from the front desk, to the cleaning staff to the management were great. We used the hotel to help arrange transportation and a guide around the city and they surpassed our expectations at a very reasonable price. They are presently updating the electricity to include a generator for when the power in the city is off. That will be a great addition.
For the price, location and atmosphere, the Hotel Encounter can't be beat. We'll be back our next time through Kathmandu.

We stayed there for 2 nights, just after arrival in Kathmandu. Our choise was based on LP review.
We did not book a room in advance and that was right, because price on there web site 3 times expensive. We choose deluxe room with ac and balcony with the great view on the valley for 23usd per day.
Hot water available all tha day, even if there is no electricity.
The room was not clean at all. Bed sheets have not been changed for years. So bring your own sheets.
Wifi Internet was available only in lobby and in the
restaurant but not in rooms and was VARY slow.
Food was ok. Stuff was really annoying offering tours and trekking.
So I not recommend to stay there, because there are a lot of less popular, cheaper and clean guesthouses in the area.

The journey to Nepal was really amusing and we got a warm welcome at the airport. The hotel service was very impressive. I must recommend my friends about this hotel- Hotel Encounter. The room was spacious as well as very nice to stay in, Internet service was also available in the hotel- free of cost. But one thing that I noticed was that National Power Grid in Nepal was very poor. We experienced almost 7 hrs of power disruption every day, though the hotel had their generators for backup. However, I want to visit Nepal time and again.

Amongst most of the hotels I've stayed before in Kathmandu Encounter Hotel is my most favorite one price+value!
The place is located in the main tourist area, regardless of that it's very quiet and has a great green garden. A wonderful place to hang out or have a lunch far from the city rush!
There's a good restaurant with reasonable prices and multicuisine menu- so you can always find what you like! The staff is very helpful and service is great!
I'm coming back to Nepal this Spring and will definitely stay there again!

We stayed five nights in Kathmandu at the start of our India holiday. We booked the first night at the Hotel Encounter but our $10 room was in the block undergoing renovations. We asked for a quieter room and we were eventually moved to the back block and into a $25 room at the discounted rate of $15. It was adequate but still fairly noisey. The decor was a little tired and the bedding shabby. There was an attached bathroom with a shower but the hot water was temperamental. The food was fairly good but the hotel is not really in the heart of Thamel - we moved after the first night to the Red Planet Hotel - cheaper, better value and more central.

Me and my girlfriend stayed there off and on for 6 weeks and had a fantastic stay. We booked our treks through them. I believe we got good value for money and were very pleased with our trip. This was largely down to the service we received at hotel encounter

My trip to Tang Boche on the Everest Trek was memorable. The scenery up the mountain unforgettable as were my guides. The tea houses and food excellent. HGT did everything to insure a successful and memorable trek/experience. I recommend them highly as a Trekking Company. My elephant back safari in Chitwan National Park was fantastic. HGT made my adenture everything and more. I also have wonderful memories from Bhutan, Tibet and India. HGT does it all. Hotel Encounter is situated in a lovely garden and I was pleased with its sevices. Walkingf distance to everything.
