“Tourist sub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Good restaurants, guest houses, great place for shopping. When you want to go on trekking you find all the gear you need for a very reasonable price

“Overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Thamel is the hub of mainly young tourists who visit Nepal. There are many shops, all selling the same stock of trekking goods and clothing and overpriced souvenirs. There are many restaurants and bars, all pretty much of a muchness. However, despite living here we visit every now and again just for the hustle and bustle. You will get better deals for souvenirs away from Thamel but bartering is a must and there are some deals to be had, which are better out of season.

“Great Shopping and more”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

Thamel is a great place for shopping, dining and entertainment, hotels for tourists, and more. I would recommend this area if you wish to find a cheap hotel. A number of internet phone offices allow you to make real cheap calls back home. Must see.

“Its a must”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

Though you are likely to find as many tourists as you are Nepalese, this is an absolute must see. If you have been to Kathmandu, then you have been to Thamel. This is what allows you to chat with fellow travelers and share the "common" experiences.
