“Great and friendly place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

This is our second stay at Hotel Tibet and we enjoyed both visits. It is a comfortable place done in a Tibetan style with fittings and art work to match.

It is interesting to sit in the lobby in comfortable chairs and look at the walls and ceiling, something new to discover each time.

The 5th Floor bar is worth making time for.

My wife and I have been here a week this second visit and have found Room 306 comfortable and clean. It is a twin room, so ask for a double if that is your preference.

It does have a balcony which is pleasant to sit at and read or idle some time away.

Like all places in Kathmandu power can be cut off at any time, so make sure your plug adapter comes with a fuse or reset button to protect your electronic equipment. There is WiFi available, so see the front desk to buy the time you need. Hopefully management will see an advantage in making it available automatically as part of your room rate. Other hotels do it, but remember you still pay!

The house keeping staff are thorough and efficient in making your bed and cleaning through.
We found the front desk, dining and room service staff at this hotel to be excellent in manner and in service, and we cannot thank them enough for making our stay so pleasant.

The meals are good and the prices are reasonable, however if you want to get to Thamel you need a taxi as Lazimpat Road is under reconstruction and an awkward walk in the dark or the rain.

The Tour desk is well run by Roji, she was a great help in planning our city tour schedule and providing a hotel vehicle and excellent driver every day.

If you want better than a taxi then do book one of their cars to pick you up or return you to the airport. A less scary ride just about guaranteed. We got a taxi here, but we'll take their vehicle back and we consider that to be the best option.

Try them and enjoy your stay

Gordon R.

We stayed here for a couple of nights. It is a good, clean Western style hotel, with friendly reception staff and a helpful travel desk. The rooftop bar is lovely to go and relax.
The breakfast is better than average although all food and drinks were pricier than average.
You do have to pay for wifi. And it is a bit hit and miss.

Room Tip: We had a room at the front with a small balcony. Big enough for 2 chairs and a small table.

My wife and I bookended our trip to Bhutan with a total of four nights at Hotel Tibet-Lazimpat. Of the four hotels we stayed at during fifteen days, Hotel Tibet was our favorite. It is the earnest kindness and unintrusive attentiveness of the staff that really stood out to us--and returning to the hotel after venturing into Kathmandu's urban chaos really was oasis-like. We have an affection for Tibetan decor and tradition, and it is palpable there. Rosie, the travel concierge, was helpful and very personable, she makes everyone feel very welcome and appreciated. Everything but the elevator still worked fine on the generator during the daily power cutoffs. It does have a somewhat skimpy Internet system, but it is adequate. The bar on the top floor is noisy. Overall, it's not an antiseptic corporate box, it does convey a real sense of being in a different culture, but with a very welcoming tone. We hope to return there.

Room Tip: The top floor has a terrace with a pleasant view. The downside is that when the bar is open at night...

Very clean, comfortable and quiet ... friendly and helpful staff, this was an extremely pleasant stay. A five minute walk to the stupa made the location ideal. Although not what I would recommend for the "authentic" Nepalese experience, the Tibetan influence was very comforting. Great massages in the spa!

I highly recommend Hotel Tibet in Kathmandu. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable, clean and the staff is lovely. Hotel Tibet is the perfect sanctuary in Kathmandu and in a wonderful location, just a 10 minute walk to the Stupa, a World Heritage site, where one can coambulate with monks and devotees as people have been doing for centuries.

I have stayed here a few times (part of a package) and was initially not impressed. But, on my last return things had much improved - all round. The staff were friendlier, the food was better (breakfasts are still limited in selection and watch the scary toaster, but I had a great dinner there). My room was really good - cleaner and much quieter, and cooler so the average AC was not such a big deal, than on my previous visit and away from a noisy generator. Its a great location, and the look of the hotel gives you a great cultural feel. The internet arrangements remain frustrating but luckily there is good wifi down the road on the way to Thamel at a great cafe - Coffee Escape aka the Ille Cafe!

Room Tip: Try to get away from the noisy generator or machine which is outside windows near another building.

Hotel Tibet is a lovely spot away from the chaos of the streets of Kathmandu. The staff is friendly and helpful. Rosie, the travel advisor stationed in the lobby, helped us manage to figure out how not to let one of the Maoist strikes affect us. We were on the fifth floor, which I would advise against, since there is a terrace bar outside the door, which can be noisy if there are groups hanging out. The atmosphere is decidedly Tibetan, with traditional furnishings. A nice getaway!

Room Tip: There is intermittent electricity, so opt for a lower floor if you don't want to hike the stairs...
