“A Perfect Sanctuary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

I highly recommend Hotel Tibet in Kathmandu. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable, clean and the staff is lovely. Hotel Tibet is the perfect sanctuary in Kathmandu and in a wonderful location, just a 10 minute walk to the Stupa, a World Heritage site, where one can coambulate with monks and devotees as people have been doing for centuries.

I have stayed here a few times (part of a package) and was initially not impressed. But, on my last return things had much improved - all round. The staff were friendlier, the food was better (breakfasts are still limited in selection and watch the scary toaster, but I had a great dinner there). My room was really good - cleaner and much quieter, and cooler so the average AC was not such a big deal, than on my previous visit and away from a noisy generator. Its a great location, and the look of the hotel gives you a great cultural feel. The internet arrangements remain frustrating but luckily there is good wifi down the road on the way to Thamel at a great cafe - Coffee Escape aka the Ille Cafe!

Room Tip: Try to get away from the noisy generator or machine which is outside windows near another building.

Hotel Tibet is a lovely spot away from the chaos of the streets of Kathmandu. The staff is friendly and helpful. Rosie, the travel advisor stationed in the lobby, helped us manage to figure out how not to let one of the Maoist strikes affect us. We were on the fifth floor, which I would advise against, since there is a terrace bar outside the door, which can be noisy if there are groups hanging out. The atmosphere is decidedly Tibetan, with traditional furnishings. A nice getaway!

Room Tip: There is intermittent electricity, so opt for a lower floor if you don't want to hike the stairs...

Hotel Tibet is a wonderful find in chaotic Kathmandu. I work as a group leader for cultural journeys in the Himalayan region and as such I always appreciate a hotel that provides for all the needs of my groups in a professional and caring way. That describes the Hotel Tibet, Lazimpath, Kathmandu. I first and foremost appreciate the staff. I always feel like my groups are arriving "home" when we spend time in the hotel as every staff member treats us like we are treasured friends. The atmosphere is also calm as the setting is separated from the busy and often chaotic streets of the city. The rooms are always clean and well kept, the style of a Tibetan Hotel is also warm and comforting as you would see. The onsite restaraunt is also one of my favorites in Kathmandu, not expensive or opulent, but clean, well staffed and the food quality is excellent at a reasonable price. My final word is that is simply the right place to stay in Kathmandu.

Atmospheric, great staff, good food and a wonderful roof top bar and restaurant that always seemed to be just waiting for me (two of the three times I went I was the only customer).

Travelling on my own I couldnt have felt safer. The staff were very friendly. We also held a training course in the hotel one day - a strike meaning people came to me rather than attempting to get into the office - it was fine.

Didnt have a mini bar - but then was on a specual deal!

The Raddison opposite liiked like a concrete car park by comparison - but do be aware you hear live music from there to about 11pm most evenings if you are at teh front of the hotel.

PS loos at Kathmandu airport are dire! Avoid and if you cant take lots of loo roll - there isnt any!

Room Tip: I was in 305 good sized room with balcony

The rooms are well furnished, bright, clean and quiet. The beds are comfortable. The only thing we missed at night was a little oven/heating as it got quite cold.
Breakfast and dinner are tasty and satisfying both western and oriental tastes, staff is very friendly and helpful.
Eating on the terrace and having a drink in the rooftop bar are lovely.
Taxis are waiting at the corner of the street so that it is very easy to move around the city.
I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Wonderfully peaceful hotel and an oasis of calm after the hectic hours spent in bustling Thamel, and exploring the amazing World Heritage sights, and an ideal opportunity to acclimatise before beginning a trek into the Himalayas.
