“Shivaratri - a must for western tourists”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

We visited the Pashupatinath Temple on the first day of the legendary birthday of Lord Shiva, with at least a half a million hindus. Surprisingly things were far more peaceful than expected. Don´t miss it !!!
Don´t start off before 3 pm. Take the shortcut from the airport side and scramble to the temples an ghats on the eastern side of the bagmati river. Here you can get close contact to pilgrims and sadhus. Leave after sunset, when things get a little freaky.

“Another must see in kathmandu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

You can not miss this place. You should be prepared for the visit. To see the cremations all around. You should visit both sides of the river and walk around. Enjoy it

“Be sure to see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

To visit this area and be viewing mourning families from across the river then observing their deceased family member being cremated in front of people taking photos was quite interesting to say the least. It made me feel both entranced and intrusive at the same time. A very worth while place to visit. An entry fee is payable and be wary of people who push themselves on you as a guide then expect payment.

“Fascinating and surprisingly peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

This is a great place to visit and is an integral part of Hindu/Neplaese culture. Spare at least an hour for a good look round and a walk up the hill for some great views. Many have suggested asking an unofficial guide which are very inexpensive.

“Interesting, but nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

The temple itself is off limits to all non-Hindu's and so you can only walk around the outer grounds and if you are into that sort of thing, watch the bodies being cremated beside the filthy stream. OK for an hour or so, but not worth the Rp.500 entry fee in my opinion.
