“World Heritage site”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

Its like stepping back in time, a really interesting place which foreign tourists have to pay an entrance fee. I can understand why they charge, however it did stop me from revisiting on other days.
To make the most of the entrance fee remember that you cannot get in to the Museums after 16.00 and these close at 17.00 and you will be charged the same fee.

“Very interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

The square was busy with hustle and bustle and had many temples.
Since we had already seen a zillion temples, etc. we probably could have done without seeing this one. However, it is always good to see and learn something new.

“A Good Place to Start”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

A great way to start your trip is to walk from Thamel down to Durbar Square, have lunch there and then walk accross to Swayambhunath Temple. Great way to get to know the city. Make sure you see Kumari.

“NO MOTORBIKES PLEASE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

It's a wonderful place full of uniqe Newari temples but the noise from the motorbikes mars it! It costs 750 Rs to enter the square, so there should be no traffic at all! It's a Unesco Heritage Monument for heaven's sake!

“a must-see if going to Kathmandu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

Probably one of the most iconic area of the city, it is packed with old religious buildings which are all more impressive than the others. Very interesting to see for their peculiar architecture, but also for the atmosphere wandering around, it's a high place of cult.
