“Oasis amidst chaos”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Dwarika's continues to deserve its reputation as a fine hotel set amongst the craziness of Khatmandu. Beautiful structurally, exceptional garden, and superb restaurants and services. Not to be missed for a drink, a meal or a few nights of luxury amid the noise and confusion of this city.

By far one of the 'BEST' heritage hotel experiences I have had in the recent years ... This Hotel is an art lovers delight, an architectural wonder, a treasure house of a kind. Every nook & corner talks to you & has something unique to it's identity.

The Heritage Suite was luxurious & spacious beyond words, sporting a Very Impressive Newari & wood carving decor. The courtyard view added to the overall charm.

Had an excellent 'Himalayan Trekkers' massage at the Pancha Kosha Spa (highly recommended)

The local Nepalese cuisine 6 course dining experience at Krishnarpan was par excellence. The restaurant offers a personalized menu + souvenir to each diner (nice touch). Has a fantastic setting with fairly friendly & courteous lady servers, doing an excellent job in this very busy & popular restaurant.

The pool side setting is breathtakingly beautiful & has the Fusion Bar in the background. December ain't the best time for a swim (pool isn't heated) but just chilling with a good book made my day. Thankfully it was nice, bright & sunny ! Order in food/drinks from Fusion and just relax ... What Bliss !!

Besides, the wonderful library lounge (Lumbini) experience, also had a great time at the Fusion bar. Very interesting decor, well stocked, cozy setting & even more wonderful staff. Plus the fire place just does it !! Pls. do NOT MISS the bar experience even if just for a drink or two.

Big Thank You to the Front Desk staff & the very hands-on owner (Mrs. Shreshta) who made the Christmas eve special by personally wishing every in-house guest. Was a sweet & warming gesture indeed !!

Stayed @Dwarika's for three days and will MOST certainly return to have yet another memorable stay. If it's Kathmandu, it's gotta be Dwarika's !!

Room Tip: Pick a room on the lower floor to avoid early morning pigeon menace.

The breathtakingly beautiful, authentic setting of the Dwarika has made it my favourite hotel in the world! This small boutique hotel provides instant relaxation and comfort from the minute you pass through the gates. The Dwarika exudes zen with the owner's dogs walking freely and the cozy buildings (library, bar lounge) where you can often have to yourself to read and lounge by the fire.
The food and restaurants (Nepalese, Japanese, continental) are all excellent. The rooms are huge, and unique. I have only stayed in the Ram Palace building and have loved each room for the size, interesting washrooms and layouts. I have heard from friends that the street view rooms are less desirable. Once discovering the Dwarika, it enhanced the enjoyment of Kathmandu as you now feel a part of authentic Nepal. I have enjoyed my stays at the Dwarika so much that i have considered travelling back to the Dwarika as the destination itself!

Following the comments on the site we have searched for nice and recomended place to stay. We have stayed before in midlle class hotels, but after all it is better to spend some more money to be sure you will be satisfied in all aspects of hotel stay: wonderful food, perfect service and feeling of being at home, which you desire some time during the trip. We advise to stay in this hotel.

I will share with you one of my best experience in a hotel.
This is a fabulous place to stay. Rooms are beautiful, gardens are amazing...
We loved everything about it.
The service is wonderful; they try to make you feel at home. We went there for your honeymoon and we had the best resting time ever.
The pool is a little bit chilly, but it can be refreshing during hot days.
We loved our surprise chocolate cake, great pastry chef by the way.... We highly recommend the fusion restaurant and the breakfast buffet (try the Jack Tomme cheese - very nice).Thank you for making our honeymoon a perfect one!

As soon as you leave the busy streets of Kathmandu and enter Dwarika's you get a feeling of peace and tranquility. The hotel has been built to look much older than it is and showcases hundreds of antique carved wooden windows, balconies and artifacts collected by the original owner. The effect is magical.

The rooms are superb - spacious and well equiped. We stayed in a suite which was huge and had all the features you would expect in a five star hotel. We stayed for two nights before our trek in the Himalayas and one night after. We ate in all three restaurants but we would recommend the Nepalese restaurant. The food and service was excellent and the thoughtful details such as the menu printed with our names and the gift when we left were much appreciated. Looking at the photographs of past visitors we were in good company.

Kathmandu is an interesting city with much to see but suffers from heavy traffic pollution. Take great care with hygiene - we would recommend the use of antibacterial hand gel before eating to avoid stomach problems. The local water contains high levels of bacteria too so try to avoid getting water near your eyes, nose and mouth. All these factors make the choice of hotel very important.

The choice is simple - if you want to stay in a hotel with charactor it has to be Dwarika's

We've stayed here a couple of times. Once after walking the Annapurna circuit and second time after motor biking in Tibet. Both times we needed some luxury tlc and it delivered by the bucket load. Food, service, cleanliness, in house travel agent, bar, special dinner - everything really was just exceptional. There is no where else like it in Nepal! A must treat for at least one night.
