“great older hotel ... great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

our first trip to Kathmandu so I don't have a lot to compare it to.. other than driving by a LOT of other hotels in other locations ..

The hotel location is really very good. Central and you can walk to a lot of places. The same can't be said for lots of hotels. Very safe. Our room was very clean and well taken care of. We stayed on the club floor which got us breakfast in a nice little lounge and happy hour from 5 - 8. Snacks and cocktails included. Peter, the host of the lounge, was very informative and friendly. He gave advice and helped us set up some side trips that were great and pretty cost effective. Not as cheap as if we'd done it ourselves but close.. and we knew after talking to him what we did and didn't want to do. So it was very helpful.

it's not a 5 star by many place standards but nice, clean, safe, great service and better than what we expected.

Decent buffet breakfast. Staff very friendly.

Very, very happy with our stay.

Room Tip: try the club floor and get the lounge, snacks, happy hour. Great place to unwind.

This hotel is centrally located within easy walking distance of shopping and restaurants. Ask for a room in the new wing where rooms are nicely appointed. There is wifi in the rooms which carries a rather steep fee of $12.00 per 24 hour period.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the new wing.

On my twice yearly visits to Nepal I stay at the Yak and Yeti Hotel. It is in a quiet location (it is very difficult to find a quite location hotel in Kathmandu) central to the business and tourist districts. Great restaurants within walking distance to the hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean, comfortable. The major attraction of the hotel is the sprawling gardens, swimming pool and gym.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and stay on the Executive floor

We loved this place, and can’t understand the negative reviews that some people have given it. We were there for leisure, but how anyone can say this isn’t suitable for business is beyond me – there are conference facilities and a business centre.

The room was a good size, air conditioned, mini bar, safe etc., good bathroom. Furniture and décor wasn’t new, but was in good condition, far from shabby.

We only ate in the buffet which served excellent breakfast and dinner choices, our only regret was that we didn’t eat in one of the restaurants which were highly recommended by other guests (after we’d had dinner on our last night).

Staff were very friendly and really went out of their way to be helpful.

The hotel is very conveniently located close to the main shopping street in Kathmandu (it has shops of its own as well) and is only 15 minutes from the airport by taxi.

To be fair, this hotel is in two wings, an old and a new. We were in the newer wing and we didn’t get to look at the old one, so we can’t comment on those rooms. There are two very brief power cuts per day – literally a few seconds while the Hotel’s generators kick in during the power load saving times that apply across the city.

Very nice, well stocked lounge bar, but the piano is desperate for a tune up! Happy to recommend this hotel. We had a lovely stay.

Room Tip: This is hearsay, but the newer wing is supposed to be better

The Yak and Yeti is a nice hotel in a good location in Kathmandu.
Room was fine, everything that you need in it and a good big comfortable bed.
Staff very helpful and friendly. Not gourmet food but perfectly good with some traditional Nepalese options. The Chimney restaurant is very nice, although a bit chilly in there so worth taking a wrap to wear.
Nice garden with a pond and ducks. Staff will serve you in the garden from the restaurant so even in February it was nice to sit out and have a coffee.
You can walk up to the main road from the hotel which has a good selection of Nepali shops and cafes as well as a few chains like Pizza Hut and KFC.

Room Tip: Try to get a room looking over the garden.

An amazing property with hospitality to match. What I loved about this hotel was it's LOCATION. While being in the heart of Kathmandu, it transports you to a resort(ish) ambience the moment you step in. The casino was nice but surely can do better.

This is our second stay at the Yak and Yeti, and again we stayed on the business floor that offers a "happy hour" as well as breakfast that caters only to the business floor. The service is good, but the business lounge and rooms are tired. Now this is Kathmandu, Nepal so this review is based on a "5" star Kathmandu hotel. Breakfast offered minimal choices and the food was not really good.Throughout the day power does go off and the generators go on. We selected this hotel because of the location, however downtown Kathmandu is severly polluted and the streets are broken up. I would have preferred to be way out of town but the idea is to see the city.
There is a casino on premises called Casino Royal, it is really tired and just a few machines and tables. DO NOT expect Las Vegas or AC.
The bed and bath are good and they provide plenty of bottled water. The grounds are beautiful, large pond, trails and trees, tennis courts and pool. An escape from the noise and pollution of the city.

Room Tip: I do not really know, we were on the upper floor and it was ok. By the way the city is so very pollu...
