“Calmer than the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

We stayed here after coming down from near Everest base camp. After being In the mountains for over a week this place looked like paradise...
Check in was a bit confused and rooms are a bit of a trek away. Rooms are ordinary and tvs are so old fashioned it's funny.
Bar area is very nice and staff were very helpful. Went to the restaurant 2 nights and it was ok. Again nice staff but nothing else memorable. The casino here is an absolute joke. Probably the most depressing casino on earth. If you enjoy this you must have a gambling problem.
Pool area is very nice with mice bar. It is a lovely setting and lovely to get away from the chaos of Kathmandu.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

We stayed 3 nights at the Soaltee as part of a package tour. Room was spacious and comfortable. Staff was service oriented, especially liked the bar (they were good about bringing in food from other food venues) and the Chinese restaurant was excellent. Breakfast also had a lot of variety. [LOVED the lychee juice!!!]. My one issue with the establishment was the extremely high (about $13 US/day) internet fees. For that fee, one would expect seamless, consistent, reasonably fast wifi. But the wifi was spotty, kept dropping and overall was frustrating and unreliable. I first thought that this was an issue related to the limited infrastructure in a quickly developing country. However, we stayed at another hotel in Nepal, up in the mountains closer to the Himalayan foothills and they had free, fast lobby wifi and $3/day hotel room wifi. So it can be done. disappointing in an otherwise lovely, sophisticated establishment.

Room Tip: Hard to say. there were noisy weddings going on when we were there but the drumming calmed down aft...

Very warm welcome and recognized as a Gold priority member with a welcome letter. Muna Bhandari from guest relation was outstanding. Muna took us as her own family. Our family was welcomed with royalty with Personal attention. Breakfast was excellent with variety. Staff in breakfast hall gave excellent personal service. Quiet hotel from the hassle and bustle of dusty thamel city centre. Highly recommended. Good value for money.

This is a good retreat from the chaotic and noisy streets in Kathmandu, as hotel is located in its own compound away from the city centre.
Room is clean and comfortable, and i had a very good sleep here. There is a nice big swimming pool in the hotel ground. The buffet breakfast is not too bad with a good selection of international and local food.
There are not many international standard hotels in Kathmandu, and this is probably one of the better hotels in Kathmandu, and one can not go wrong with this choice.

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza for two nights while we were in Kathmandu. It is located in compound, which is a nice break from the hectic city.

I consider the rooms to be the determining factor in a hotel rating, and I'd rate the rooms here average at best. The first room we were assigned was at the end of a long corridor, and it was very warm. We had the air conditioner set as low as possible, but it was still uncomfortable after two hours. The room also had an unpleasant odor which the staff had attempted to mask by an overpowering air freshener. We had them move us to another room, which had no odor problem but which was still warm, but cooler than the first room. The carpet in both rooms needed to be replaced. It was badly worn. The furniture was also had lots of scrapes and chips. The bathroom was clean, but the fixtures were also aged.

The dining, on the other hand, was very good here. We dined in the Chinese restaurant one night, and the Italian restaurant the other night. Both were very good, and the service was excellent. The breakfast buffet was also very good.

The grounds are beautiful, and aside from the conditions in the guest rooms, the rest of the hotel seemed to be very well maintained.

We went to Nepal on an extension and stayed three nights at this hotel. The property was very well maintained. The rooms were of a nice size and up to date. Breakfast was excellent and included an omelet station and a pancake station along with an assortment of eastern and western breakfast selections. We also dined at the Chinese restaurant and the Italian for dinner and both were excellent with great service. We didn't use the pool altho it looked inviting. A short walk will get you off the property if you want to do a little shopping or get snacks and seemed relatively safe. As a priority club member we rec'd free WIFI which is a nice little extra.

I stayed at the property for 2days in December 2013...

The Hotel is located as an Oasis slightly out of town.... There is some work going on at the road adjacent and the entry is troublesome.

The Hotel premise is serene, calm, tranquil and beautiful...

The ambiance and the feel is also nice....The rooms are large enough with comfy beds, a workable "BIG" LCD TV and all necessities.

The staff like most Nepalis are courteous and competent.

Buys, must be wondering about the average part.....

Here it is,

1) The bathroom with its half draining toilets are TERRIBLE.

2) I had to ask them to change the sheets the next day.

3) House keeping was TERRIBLE... You had to follow up ON and ON for some basics as in towels, room spray etc.

4) Breakfast spread was GOOD but some items were disappointing with bland tastes..... The bacon for example was rubbery and stiff and pan cakes were not upto the mark.

5) We were on a conference and the SOUND system was the WORST I have experienced in a hotel of such standards

I was in a group and may be the HOTEL is different with normal guests.... But I am making a trip to Nepal next year and Soaltee will not be the hotel I chose.

Room Tip: Chose rooms facing the casino for mountain view
