We stayed at the Crowne Plaza for two nights while we were in Kathmandu. It is located in compound, which is a nice break from the hectic city.
I consider the rooms to be the determining factor in a hotel rating, and I'd rate the rooms here average at best. The first room we were assigned was at the end of a long corridor, and it was very warm. We had the air conditioner set as low as possible, but it was still uncomfortable after two hours. The room also had an unpleasant odor which the staff had attempted to mask by an overpowering air freshener. We had them move us to another room, which had no odor problem but which was still warm, but cooler than the first room. The carpet in both rooms needed to be replaced. It was badly worn. The furniture was also had lots of scrapes and chips. The bathroom was clean, but the fixtures were also aged.
The dining, on the other hand, was very good here. We dined in the Chinese restaurant one night, and the Italian restaurant the other night. Both were very good, and the service was excellent. The breakfast buffet was also very good.
The grounds are beautiful, and aside from the conditions in the guest rooms, the rest of the hotel seemed to be very well maintained.
