“Good location, and a bed to sleep in”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

The Hotel Nepalaya is a fairly basic hotel. If you are looking for a central location to shop and visit restaurants and are not too fussy about your hotel this would be a good choice. It is located just back from one of the busy shopping streets in Thamel and within easy walking of lots of restaurants.
I found the hotel a bit shabby and the rooms fairly uninviting. The rooms were clean though and had everything you needed.
A feature of the hotel is the rooftop restaurant where you have breakfast. Good views of the city.

Room Tip: Ask for a room higher up - on the lower floors other buildings block out light and view

I travelled to Nepal last November with a group of 25 on a group teaching exercise. We received amazing service from the brothers managing the Nepalaya. We were picked up at the airport and all our luggage was collected by their staff, They then arranged a full meal for 25 people at extremely short notice. Milan also arranged a group tour with a guide to Patan and the monkey temple. He even lent me money for the entry fees as I did not have enough nepalese rupees. Amazing help and service. Highly recommended

I've been her several times. I feel her at home. Excellent location in the heart of Thamel. Hotel has a little strange architecture - most windows face internal yard. That's why You do not hear any noise from the street. Thy narrow side street to Thamel has small, simple, cheap - but excellent restaurants. Staff is extremely helpful, competent , polite - without being pushy. Rooftop restaurant serves tasty meals especially great choice of breakfasts, the only problem is electricity gone but it is normal for Kathmandu of-course hotel has always back up power you will not stay at dark at this hotel, Free-internet it is also nice feature. I returned here with pleasure and because of i felt at home

Room Tip: Get higher flower room for Natural Room but be aware of elevator not always working while power cut...

Staff were very helpful. Good location in the middle of thamel. Clean rooms, hot showers! Rooftop restaurant is good for drinks and a quick breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay here, would delicately come back again.

This was the first time I stayed here. They have rooms to fit any budget, weather you are staying just one night traveling through Thamel or if you want to stay 9 days as I did. The staff are amazing. The views from the rooftop are wonderful. The Restaurant is open late and the food is really good. Great security.  There is WIFI in the rooms and all over the hotel.. Will stay nexts time I come.

I stayed here five nights and had a hot shower every day!! Not warm, not tolerable, but actually hot! That wouldn't matter so much in summer I guess, but at the end of March, while it's really warm during the day, that hot shower made such a difference at night. They have a working elevator also, and a lovely rooftop terrace for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The staff is very helpful and friendly without being intrusive, and my room was clean and ready for me when I arrived. They also have two computers in the lobby and if the electricity is working, the internet service is good. I think this hotel has a good location and it was all I need to enjoy my stay in Kathmandu. It is not five star, so keep that in mind. But when the electricity goes out (it does this on a rotation basis all over Kathmandu) they have a light in the room that still works and that was so convenient!

Room Tip: Upper floors may be quieter in the morning...

Directly in Thamel (touristic quarter of Kathmandu), it is also quiet that is pretty impressive. Quite clean and confortable. The best is definitely the service. Rather choose 6th, 5th floor room for a good view.
