“Good value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We booked 3 rooms for only one night and found the hotel very good for the price. 2 of the rooms were family rooms and one a deluxe room. The family rooms were very spacious and all were clean. We ate at the hotel that evening, with all of us enjoying the meal. The lane way to the hotel does not look the best, but I had read this so was not overly surprised. All staff were very helpful

I stayed here for a total of 5 nights. The hotel is very central and they arranged a free airport pickup which was very helpful. Its a basic hotel but I had booked a deluxe room and was given a nice big corner room on the top floor with lots of light and a view over the city.

The room and the bathroom were both clean, and the bathroom had its own window so was always fresh, and the towels dried quickly. The bed was comfortable. There was some noise from the restaurant/ bar on the floor above but not enough to keep me from sleeping. I always have my own music anyway!

Breakfast (included in the price) was ok, especially once discovered poached eggs. Average for this sort of hotel.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location is perfect, its easy to walk out into the hubbub of Thamel, but because the hotel is not street facing its relatively quiet. The downside is that lower floor rooms get little natural light.

Room Tip: Top floors are best. The corner rooms furthest from the staircase have the best light and views.

We arrived in Kathmandu late in the evening and were ready to fall into a bed after a long flight and but were bitterly disappointed to be told no rooms were available at the Hotel Nepalaya. Having booked rooms at the Hotel months previously and having had confirmation via email just the day before it came as a bit of a shock, were taken instead to the sister Hotel "The Zen" and told we would be staying there one night and be moved the next day to the Nepalaya, "The Zen Hotel" was not the standard of the Nepalaya but we agreed so that we could put our heads down. The Owner of the Nepalaya explained the reason no rooms were available was that the previous party had not booked out as expected due to their flight being cancelled,We definately were unhappy but it seemed pointless to argue as he had given us what we thought was genuine reason . The next day ready to be moved to the Hotel we booked it seemed that there was still a problem with room availability .. how ever after some dissatisfied comments to the owner we were moved later on in the day. The rest of our stay was fine, all the staff at the Hotel were very friendly, welcoming and very attentive. The rooms at the Hotel could perhaps do with a bit of sprucing up as they look a bit tired and grubby, the roof top restaurant is lovely with fabulous views but again could do with a little bit of TLC and the tables we sat at had not been wiped down properly , we ate dinner there two nights and were happy with the meals and breakfasts were nice to. Over all we would stay there again as it is clear that every one at the Hotel has the guests best interest at heart, all the staff were very professional and welcomed us with a smile . We had very good and honest service from one of the owners who showed great concern for us, we do wish the Hotel all the very best for the future and hope they take our comments on board as it would make a big difference to the comfort of paying guests .

Room Tip: The rooms on the 5th and 6th floor are a lot lighter and brighter as the bottom floors have the natu...

Nepalaya is a very basic hotel but it is very clean and safe. Room amenities: servibar, Tv, A/C and Wi Fi. The food is very good. The owner and the staff are always eager to solve your wishes. You just walk outside of the hotel and you are in Thamel. Price is very reasonable. Do not expect any luxury. I do not have any reason not to comeback again.

Room Tip: Not below the kitchen in the 6th floor

We stayed at Hotel Nepalya for 5 nights and found it to be perfect for us. The facilities are good( decent wifi, cable tv, clean rooms) but the staff were exceptional, they were very professional and attentive and really made our stay very comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel.

My experience at Hotel Nepalaya was very positive. Their service was more than satisfactory and covered all the bases-from airport pickup and other transportation arrangements to in depth trekking information and itinerary planning. Milan especially was a most informative and welcoming host. He even continued to impart advice when I had been several weeks removed from his Hotel and was interested in guide/porter quotes for an upcoming trek. The hotel itself is in a great location (easy to enter, navigate around, and leave). The rooms are clean. And the staff is very friendly.
