“A Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013 via mobile

An oasis of calm just yards from the hustle and bustle of Thamel's busy streets! This boutique style hotel/property has good size rooms and facilities and a very high level of customer service at a great price. I stayed here for 6 nights in total before and after a trek to Mt. Everest ABC in Tibet organised by Makalu Adventure, who I would recommend to anyone looking for a fantastic trekking adventure in the region. Just ask reception to put you intouch with Mr. Mohan their MD! Enjoy your stay.

Perfect location, being on my own I felt very safe. Rooms are so clean and beds comfortable. Even though the power goes out sometimes and the water is cold sometimes, who cares. I had a wonderful stay and I want to come back but its hard to get a room here. If your expectations are tooooo high, lower them and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Room Tip: my tip is to have fun....

OK, if you are going to Thamel, make sure you know what to expect. The streets are cramped, noisy and dangerous.
This hotel is OK, but only 2 star at most by Western standards. The service was good, they try hard, but the regular power cuts, lack of constant hot water, crap shower heads, noisy barking feral dogs at night all detract from the experience.
Nicer courtyard which is a bit of a haven from the lunacy that is Thamel. Good to get the atmosphere for a few days, but if you are looking to relax then dig deep into your pocket and stay at one of the Western chain hotels a little further away from the tourist area. By the way, what idiot decided to develop somewhere as a tourist area where there an on sidewalks and the streets are about 8 feet wide in total??

Room Tip: Only the deluxe rooms have air con

Thamel Eco Resort is a basic tourist hotel with most of the services you would expect. The restaurant serves excellent meals at good prices. The rooms are somewhat basic, but as many others would point out ... this is Nepal and you need to manage your expectations a bit.

However, what set this establishment apart for me was the excellent service you get from all the staff. Everybody was extremely helpful and went out of their way to make ones stay memorable.

The hotel has a generator which may be in contradiction with the Eco in the name, but you sure appreciate its existence when the long load shedding periods twice a day co-incides with you getting up early in the morning to prepare for a trek.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor may be a bit noisy due to other guests using the restaurant services until...

This hotel is set back from the hustle and bustle of Thamel. It is quiet and peaceful. You can hear roosters crow at sunrise, which is nice. Has a lovely courtyard to sit and have a beer or two. Basic but adequate breakfast- pretty fancy by Nepalese standards. All of the staff were lovely. Overall, a very comfortable and enjoyable stay- can't fault.

Went to Kathmandu through the Welcome Nepal Treks and Tour. The tour provided the Eco Resort for the 3 nights at Kathmandu. The Rooms are comfortable and Clean. Good and delicious breakfast was provided by the hotel. It has a nice garden in the front. Near to shops where tourists can do shopping. It has a good and affordable spa. try out the Nepali Massage. For yoga lovers, the hotel has yoga classes too. Food at the restaurant is affordable and good. Try the Chicken Briyani.

Room Tip: Take the Deluxe room on the top floor. Bathrooms are bigger.

I stayed at the Thamel Eco Resort for 5 nights, before and after a trek. What a lovely hotel! The courtyard garden is beautiful and very peaceful....a welcome respite for the busy, noisy streets of Thamel. The food was really good....excellent breakfast with made to order omelets and a wide choice of other foods. Dinner was excellent, too. I stayed in a deluxe room (404) and it was perfect....spacious, quiet, clean with great bed linens. Best of all is the staff! All of the staff from the front desk workers to the security men, to the "bellboys", to the wait staff were professional, helpful, cheerful, and very considerate. The waiter named Ramhari was especially sweet and kind and looked after my dining needs during my stay. This place is a gem! Enjoy your stay as much as I did!

Room Tip: Rm 404 is really a quiet room and has many advantages.
