“Great location and great staff!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2011

The hotel was located in a great part of Thamel - plenty of restaurants, bars and shops to walk to, but off the main street so noise was not a problem. A very friendly and helpful staff for any questions or travel advice. We were very happy with everything about the hotel!

We stayed in the Lonely Planet recommended hotel "Ganesh Himal" before, and I have to say Family Home is much better.
The staff is better, the rooms are cleaner and bigger, the location is better (it's inside Thamel but it's not noisy), and it has the only elevator I have seen in Nepal!

The last day we had our flight at 23:30pm, so we checked out at 12:00, continued visiting the city and at 20h they let us take a shower for free.

The only thing I can say is that they offered us a car from the hotel to the airport for 500rp when it's only 350rp by taxi, anyway, I recommend this hotel 100%.

ps. the price for a double non a/c room was 22$

Dear Frank,
Namaste
We are so sorry about the car service..i know that the reception has ordered the car for you, but the car driver was late to arrive at the hotel he said that he was in traffic so that the reception arranged you the taxi from the street because you will be late to to catch your flights waiting for the car ..we will be more careful on this kind of arrangement after this case
Thank you for choosing us as your destination when traveling to Kathmandu and we look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel family home!

I stayed in this hotel for my week-long stay in Kathmandu. The general experience was enjoyable, everything was just as one would expect from a hotel of this class: a rooftop cafe, wireless internet, balcony, etc. The staff was helpful and friendly, facilities good. Shortly: a good place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors are further from the street noise, but this matters only during the day, beca...

Hotel Family Home was a great pick for us in our visit to Nepal. We enjoyed nice breakfasts in the morning and received great service from the staff, including booking our flight to Lukla at no extra charge, calling a taxi to meet us at 5;00 am, and most importantly, providing a secure place for us to leave our valuables while we were trekking. It is a simple hotel, but they provided me with peace of mind.

High expectations due to rewievs read on the Internet. But Mr. Mukti Padney and his staff made us feel very welcome and "part of the family". Special regards to Bihmsen. Also take into considerations, - this is Nepal.
Mukti Pandey speaks almost every day at breakfast with his customers to assure everything is OK, to ask "can I help you to arrange your trek?" / is the arrangement of your trek OK?, to give advice on your programme for the day / how to get your laundry done.

Room Tip: We prefered a room to the street at one of the upper floors for the better wiev.

I stayed at Hotel Family Home for 12 days in July and was made to feel so welcome by Mukti and his staff. The hotel is centrally located but still quiet enough to feel comfortable. Each morning breakfast was provided on the rooftop and Mukti always was there to chat with his clients and to see if everything was ok and if there was anything needed or if he could help with travel plans or tourist info. The staff are friendly and helpful and nothing seems to much trouble. The rooms are spacious and clean and hot water readily available. Internet is free and fast. Would gladly stay here again and want to say "Thank you" to Mukti and his staff for making my stay in Kathmandu a wonderful time.
