“Bad Service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

I just bought ginger ale and it was Rs. 250 including service fee. That was more expensive than the admission fee to Garden of Dreams. Ginger Ale was served in a can, not in a glass...

“Go for the ambiance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Amazing ambiance..with European-style garden and perfect lighting. For a moment, you forget you are in dirty, congested Kathmandu. The food is ok. But the prices are on a higher side. The staffs are friendly and prompt with their service.

“URBAN OASIS”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

You come here for the setting.

The Kaiser Café is run by the same folk that own and operate Dwarika’s Hotel and is set in the Garden of Dreams. The Edwardian era garden was built by the late Field Marshal Kaiser SJB Rana and is a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. However, even if you’re just coming here for lunch, as my wife and I did on a recent Saturday, you’ll still have to pay the Rs. 200 per person entry fee.

The café is set in one of the garden’s original six pavilions and has a pleasant veranda that overlooks the garden. It’s a nice place to hang out on a warm afternoon.

We’ve eaten here several times and the food is decent yet unremarkable – the same can be said for the service. Kaiser Café’s menu contains a variety of continental selections and on this day, we decided to split a club sandwich. A short time after ordering, the sandwich arrived – toasted white bread bracketing the usual club makings, cut into quarters and arranged around a handful of fries. As we munched on our sandwich, we enjoyed the late spring afternoon and watched Nepali couples stroll around and about the grounds.

Given the fine dining options available at Dwarika’s Hotel, it’s surprising that the group didn’t go one step further and truly capitalize on the Garden’s lovely setting by offering a more refined, or at least interesting, menu.

Oh well, I guess I’ve forgotten. You don’t come here for the food.

“Average food but great desserts.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013 via mobile

As others have said the food is average. The deserts and coffees though were a totally different story though. They were an escape from Nepal to a standard as good as any coffee shop in a city back home. A pleasant find after 3 weeks in the mountains to refresh before the trip home. Beautiful setting.
