“OK but can do better!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2010

- They can organize things but you can get it cheaper if you do it by yourself
And they are not here for you if something turns bad with what they organized (which was the case for us!)
- Food is good, the breakfast is great
- Rooms are ok if you do not have any high demand (but could be cleaner)

Khem, the manager, was very friendly, but after a while we figured out that he is running for commission and isn't that honest as we thought. We booked three nights via internet, but after arrival he said he would be full and we have to go to another place. But we had to pay the full amount, but the other hotels charged just the half price. So half of the money goes into his pockets. Take care!
If we asked for flight tickets to Bangkok, he called the office downstairs and added 100 US on top of the amount. So take care of this guy.
And: the terrace is quite noisy, so could cannot enjoy it...

There are a lot better places for better money in Kathmandu.

Best is the location: The fire and ice pizzeria is across the street.

This is a great place to stay in a great location. The staff here are super friendly and the owner (who speaks perfect English) goes out of his way to make sure you have a great stay.

Its easy to see why Elbrus Home was voted the No1 Hostel in Nepal in 2009 by Hostelworld.com!

The rooms are spacious and clean, and come with an ensuite. The beds are comfortable and you dont have to share them with ants, as in other hostels we have experienced. The rooms could have done with a fan, as when we arrived, it was very humid.

Free breakfast and free wifi!! (Or the use of the owners computer).

There is a huge sun deck with tables and chairs, and a smaller sitting area inside.

All in all, very good value for money, we will definitely stay here again!

elbrus is a good, clean hostel. the owner is very helpfull. he helped me to set up a trip around kathmandu (about 30$). he also picked me from the airport ( 5$ ).

rooms are clean, there is internet. The hostel is placed in a busy area, and it is quite noisy in the night.
good place for a short stay.

I stayed here based on reviews I had read online, and I was not disappointed. Khem and his brother are very welcoming and helpful. I had no plans when I arrived in Nepal, and Khem helped me to set up a plan to trek and to see the sights in the city. The rooms are good with clean bathrooms and I always looked forward to the complimentary breakfast. Khem is also very friendly and will gladly have a beer with you!

From the moment we arrived in Ktm, Khem just made things happen for us over and over. The accommodation at Elbrus Home is great, one of the best hostels I've stayed at. Clean rooms with an outdoor seating area overlooking Thamel. Khem and his staff had an amazing breakfast ready for us before an early flight to Lukla (which he arranged last minute for us), and arranged a bungee jumping trip when we got back from our trek. I really can't say enough about his hospitality.

The owner of Elbrus and his staff always greet you with a smile!! They were always going out of their way to help my friend and I on the trip through Tibet, Bhutan, and Nepal. The owner, Khem, helped to arrange plane tickets, trekking permits, transportation, and many other services that usually would have taken away valuable travel time. I have been travelling the globe for the better part of a decade and I can say that without a doubt this is the most helpful and most joyful staff I have ever encountered!! From entrance to exit I have thorougly enjoyed my stay and I am sure that all those who choose to stay at Elbrus in the future will have the same experience.
