“Wish I had stayed longer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2011

The location is very good, right next to the river where you can easily join an elephant bath.

The hotel's also got a big restaurant where you don't need to eat at anywhere else.

Everything you are willing to do in Chitwan can be arranged by the hotel.

We got off the boiling hot bus to about twenty guys trying to get us to go to their hotel! This hotel was definitely a good choice. The rooms were clean and well presented as was the bathroom. Hot water was always available.

Its location is a massive selling point. We went elephant bathing and only had to walk to the bottom of the garden- ideal when you need to change. The owner was very friendly.

The food was good but as with many of the hotels in chitwan there was 23% on the price of the bill - service charge and vat. However at the end of the hotel garden there was a cheaper cafe/restaurant.

If you want good value accommodation in a great location then stay here!

The hotel had an excellent location, right on the river where the elephants come to bath. This was such an amazing experience and one of the reasons we chose hotel riverside. The outdoor area is lovely with hammocks in the shade for relaxing but the rooms are very sparse and probably in need of a refurbishment. We came in April which was very hot and humid and the rooms were like sauna's as there is no air conditioning and the power goes out a lot. Although this is not the fault of the hotel it is something to be aware of because it was unbearable heat at some points. We did a 2 night 3 day package for $90 USD and at first we thought this was a lot considering the state of the rooms but for the overall experience we were quite happy as it includes your transport there and back, all food, and all activities during your stay.

The activity program is excellent. I really enjoyed the cultural aspects and the canoe ride and jungle walk. Be aware on the jungle walk that the guides only have sticks and you can encounter some very dangerous wild animals. We had an amazing jungle experience and would highly recommend it to anyone going to Nepal.

The food is not fantastic, we were warned that there are better places to eat in town but since it was all included in the price we ate at the hotel restaurant the whole time. It's very clean and you won't get sick but just not the most tasty.

We stayed here for 2 nights on a private tour. Unfortunately this was the most disappointing hotel on the trip.It seems like the place is undergoing some renovation and starting over, with pretty flowers planted but very little ambience established for the guests. The verandahs don't have chairs to sit on and the only place to sit by the river for a drink, was beside the noisy generator on a couple of dusty old chairs. Rooms basic and could do with a good scrub but OK. The staff are polite and friendly but very inexperienced with food and service. Perhaps they will sort themselves out over time. It's a pity it's a little far from the commercial area as we could have walked there for a break between activities. Nice folk, just not a great place to hang out.

This was great experience particularly riding through the jungle on elephants and riding down a rhino.

We were there three days and there was a well organised and varied programme of activities in the jungle and around the camp fire to keep people busy and entertained.

The Lodges were adequate and comfortable but if you don't like to have restrictions on when hot water is available and you have an aversion to lighting your room with a kerosene lamp then maybe its not for you.

Food was basic but good, the staff were excellent and night time entertainment and the bar were also good.

We have one serious issue. We were taken on a "nature walk" from the camp to see the flora and fauna and the birdlife. This took us through some very long grass and as we emerged into a clearing we tripped across a sleeping wild rhino.

The guide ushered us back quickly into the grass, he by the way was armed with no more than a stick. He quickly told us that if the rhino charged we should run for a tree and climb it or hide behind it whilst he carried out "diversionary tactics". He also said rhinos usually come in pairs so we needed to look out for the second one!!! Luckily the rhino did not wake up or charge and we got away.

We do think though this is an accident waiting to happen. It is not sensible to go walking in an area where the previous day you had been on an elephant looking for tigers and had actually found a rhino with a guide armed only with a stick!!!!

We discussed this with the manager and hopefully things have changed. If not you will still have a great time but our advice is check the details of any walk and if you are not happy have a swim in the pool instead.

  • Liked — It was basic but comfortable and clean
  • Disliked — Rationing (by time) of hot water
