The Third Eye is a restaurant that a frequented 10 years ago when I was last in Katmandu. I set out with two other names and addresses of restaurants for that evening with no thought or even recollection of The Third Eye. But then I walked near the door and it all came back.
What also came back is the reason I like Indian food in India (or, in this case, Nepal) but not in the U.S. In India the curries are simple and honest. I sat on the terrace. The wait staff were friendly and efficient. I ordered chicken tikka masala and plain rice. The flavor and the texture of both were perfect (it was presented well, too).
I ate here several weeks later. It was raining and I ate inside where it's not nearly as pleasant as the terrace. I had the same curry and it was good but not surprising. Perhaps I should have had a vegetarian dish -- Indian meat curries here are just meat and sauce. I also had a dessert which was decent but not special. I paid over $12 for the dinner which is expensive for Katmandu.
