“Authentic Nepalese Food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Great local food!
Dances are arranged in a stage near the tables.
The open air sitting place was well heated.
There are indoor sitting spaces too.
Service was a tad slow but when the food arrived it left no scope for complaints!

“Tourist Trap”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

If you want to see a some OK traditional dancing and eat some pretty bad Nepali food in a decent looking place, this is your tourist trap. The food here was mostly overcooked and super dry and often quite bland, except for the mutton. Go anywhere else in Thamel and you will find better food. Despite this lack of quality, they are happy to serve you more of whatever you liked and the staff is very friendly. In sum, if you want to try the tourist version of a good cuisine, this is a fine choice, but if you want the real thing, go somewhere a local would ever set foot in.

“Authentic Nepali / Newari 's food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

Authentic Nepali / Newari 's food.
Here we had our farewell dinner before we left for the Netherlands.
The restaurant is located in a Newari house. Did the 9-course set menu, with meat. During the dinner there was a dance. There are mainly tourists. You eat in the open air so bring a jacket or cardigan.
Paid 1700 rupees for the menu, including a glass of wine and tip.

food was fair but combine with great service and great atmosphere make a meal at thamel house a good fun experience. pick a table that you can see the performances. we went for dinner and we have a set non veg menu which we get to try a little bit of everything but it was filling :) i like dessert ... some kind of yogurt+cinnamon (not sure what it was but it was good!).

“Great experience of trying Nepalese cuisine in this restaurant!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

This is the place to visit if you want to try out Nepali and Newari traditional cuisine. It has been recommended in a number of guidebooks and also buy the locals.

They do serve ala carte items but I would recommend the set dinner menu. It has 2 options of the vegetarian and the non-vegetarian menus.

Thumbs up for the service, it was definitely top notch. Waiters are pretty friendly as well to strike conversations with the diners and please do not feel offended if they do so. I would say the set menu is a good deal as you get to try out a little of everything.

An easy find most probably just a 5-10 minutes walk from the busy Thamel backpacking area.
