“A tranquil haven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2012

Amongst the often madness of Katmandu, Mike's Breakfast is a very welcome find. Thankfully, it was recommended to us before we went, but better still if you stumble on it by accident.

The courtyard dining offers shelter from the noisy Katmandu streets and is pack full of trees, vegetation and wildlife.

Food is a very welcome change from the often substandard cafe slop and has a wide range of local and international dishes. Being there for breakfast, we tried those. Very hearty, very tasty and the locally grown organic coffee is a must.

“Really gone downhill, too bad”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012

This place was tops in the 1980s and 1990s when its founder, Mike Frame, was still alive. In the last few years it has not been maintained and just feels...well, dirty. Everything is sticky (chairs, tabletops) and smelly bathroom could do with a deep clean. The napkins, cushions, etc. are stained and the grounds are slimy with green slime, although nothing a good lime powder scrubbing wouldn't cure. The food still retains a ghostly "real American" flavor, but it is merely thrown on a plate and plopped on the (unclean) table. It seems as if the current owner just doesn't care. It does not help that constant construction in the area makes it almost impossible to keep the place tidy. Wake up owners - this could be great!

“Western Retreat amidst hustle of Kathmandu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2012

just like our local diner here in New York. You can get anything you want (excepting of course, Alice.. or Mike for that matter, because unforutnatly MIke passed away from cancer .. so keep donating to cancer research PLEASE...) but MIKES is FAMOUS as an American retreat in the frenzy of Kathmandu.. and you can get your omelettes and pancakes and muffins and sausages for Breakfast .. and of COURSE open for lunch and dinner.. AND, there is an art gallery on the property too and we spent a truck load of money in the gallery for a couple of beautiful mantras. MIKES is a MUST ! go hungry !
