My daughter and I were novice hikers and hadn't been to Nepal before, so I really wanted to make sure that our Poon Hill trek was successful. Earthbound Expeditions ensured that everything ran smoothly from the moment we began our trek. Pravin Baniya, our guide, met us at the airport in Pokhara, accompanied by a porter.
From the moment we set off on our trek, we felt an instant rapport with this pleasant, polite and knowledgeable, handsome young man. If it were not for Pravin, I would never have completed the circuit. Halfway through, after having walked up, up, up for three days, I was ready to turn back and go down, but he inspired me to carry on.
I was so tired by this point that he offered to carry my day pack on his back (which I accepted) in addition to his own one. The porter was already carrying our large backpack and the sleeping bags. We continued onward through the most beautiful countryside and villages. On the fourth day it was downhill, walking down uneven steps and pathways, but he was always watchful to make sure that I did not trip or fall, always ready to catch me when I slipped.
This has been the most memorable trip. If you can manage to have Pravin as your guide, you will not be disappointed.
PS. Just one tip. We were not impressed with the hotel that the tour company uses in Kathmandu, including the managers. If you are planning on staying longer after your tour, you might want to shop around for a better hotel.
