“Disappointing.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

I've been coming to this guest house for 3 years now but after this trip, I will definitly not go there anymore.
I used to go there for 4 reasons:
First, the price. Second, the location. Third, the Guest house itself, and specially its very nice, wide sunny garden and finally the staff, which all together used to make this address a very good deal.
Well, I have to say that the staff is as friendly as before. Ever present and helpfull, I have no complaint whatsoever regarding the people working there.
They kindly answer every questions we had, stored our luggage at no cost while we went to Pokhara, and were very polite.
Sadly, everything else changed for the worst. The lovely large garden, (which one can still see on the pictures !? ) where it was a real pleasure to sit in, for breakfast or reading or just basking in the sun, while watching the butterflies flying from flowers to flowers or the pet rabbit wandering around, well...it does not exist anymore.
There now is a brick wall blocking the access, apparently, the owner took it back.
The dining room was welcoming: A fire was lit every night making the warm place a nice spot to rest and chat with other foreign travellers...
This time, even though the weather and time of the year was the same, not a single fire was lit, and the room remained empty and cold.
Even the staff was wearing hoods and heavy coats. And last but not the least: the price. I used to pay 700 rupees per night, (a bit less than 7€) as advertised in two famous travel guides, for a single room wich was cold at night, with only one plug working (when there were no power cut) and barely warm water, moisture on the wall and no room service whatsoever, but for this price range, I know what I getting and was not complaining, and I spent more time touring katmandu or in the garden than in my bedroom anyway.
But the price went up by almost 50 % !!! for the exact same room, it now is 12 €, whatever the change rate, (and 14 € for a double bed room.)
What used to make this place really enjoyable is not there anymore, and to top it all, you know have to pay way more...for far less.

Room Tip: This hotel is made of two separate buildings. Choose the one in wich the reception is, because it is...

We in the Tibet Peace Guesthouse both at the beginning and the end of our visit of Nepal. The place is within 5 minutes walking distance of Tamel. It is quiet en recently been renovated. So the place has a nice small garden in front of the hotel in stead of the back. What we found most attractive there was the friendly staff. Every day a smile and a chat is all one needs to have a happy holiday! This place is recommanded for people that like to mingle with Nepalese people in a friendly environment.

Room Tip: Rooms at the first floor have a balconny. Rooms at ground floor are bigger.

I can't comment on the hotel rooms or anything, but we came along to restaurant here for a few nights and lunchs and it was very nice! a pleasant area inside and a very nice garden though some of the hotel staff were blasting music from their phone which ruined it a bit. nice food and staff in the restaurant though!

the hotel is sure nothing fancy, the rooms are very simple and the bathrooms not very modern, but it is clean, it is cheap, and it is quiet. so already it is most better than 80% of the places in thamel.... plus: the garden is really nice and peaceful. the food was not great, you can eat a lot better outside! the staff was very nice and helpful. Overall i would stay there again, mostly because of the price and the garden, and because i think thamel is aweful! have a good time in kathmandu!

Absolutely fabulous is the garden, a calm quit place just outside busy Thamel.
Still very close to all the things you want to do in Katmandu.
Had a very nice stay, nice big room with good bathroom, hot water was available, but being in Nepal hot water is not like home...Room was clean with a nice view of the garden.
Personell very friendly and helpfull, good restaurant and nice open fire at night.
Also check out the travel advice, people really know what's a good thing to do in a short time.
Had a great trekking with people of the guesthouse around Katmandu Valley.

All the nice rooms are kept hidden, The room I booked was with a bathroom, the night of arrival they told me all were busy but they will give me a better one the next day, had to stay in a room that used to be a kitchen with no nets on the window, grease on the walls, the smell was horrible the bathroom was outside, the bed very rough. The better room had no drain pipe beneath the sink had to find a bucket. The Garden is the only nice thing they have but the property is very loud (dogs, cars, noise from people talking outside) WIFI they tell you works, but when you get there it does not.

Location of guest house is cool, cause it is outside thamel, means pretty quiet, but still very close to thamel. Rooms depends of which You get, first time I had one with old style bathroom - not very good looking :), but second time I stayed there the room had reconstructed bathroom and it was very nice feeling :) I usually had badluck for hot shower, had to wait until the water get hot, or take cold one. the garden is lovely, very nice to take breakfast or lunch there. Food was okay, nice curry and momo! Just dont take tofu in cheese garlic sauce served with rice!!
