“Nice river views, clean and quiet hotel, small dining room.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

If you join a packaged tour for Bhutan, you will likely to be in this hotel when in Thimphu. From what I have seen all rooms are facing the river so you will get a view, however because there are no lifts you will need to walk up stairs if your room is in the higher levels. However the view is better at higher levels. Overall the room condition is good, however the dining room is a bit small so when the hotel at full capacity at breakfast time it might be hard to find a table. Also the main switch for TV / lights is outside the room, so you need to switch it on for all lights / power points to work. Also no hair dryer.

Also the location of this hotel is not exactly in the town so it is a bit of walk to the city centre. Not a good choice if you want to explore the CBD youself.

Room Tip: Higher levels = better view, however no lifts.

We stayed here for one night, and it was the worst hotel we had in Bhutan. The hotel is charmless, with shabby, basic, twin-bedded rooms. The rooms were clean but basic, with tired furnishings, however there was a small balcony overlooking the town. As it is across the river from the main part of town it is relatively quiet with no dogs barking at night, and the food was fine.

Stayed one night in this hotel during our tour of Bhutan. Hotel nicely located, with good views across the city. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Hotel staff very helpful and friendly. the restaurant staff were particularly helpful when we arrived very late for dinner, and they kept the dining-room open until we had finished our meal - good food, plenty .of choice. Would recommend this hotel.

Thimpu: Hotel RiverView:
We were booked in to the Hotel RiverView and we stayed there for 3 days. The hotel was suggested by a friend who had been here earlier.

The service of the hotel was very nice. The staff were more than helpful and being locals they were of great help seeing the local landscape. This hotel would classify as a budget hotel. Its not luxurious in any sense. The rooms are spacious and warm.

The bathroom can be better but having stayed at another similar kind of a hotel in Paro, I assume that the Bhutanese dont want to spend much of money on bathrooms. The good part is, they are neat and tidy. Hot water is available 24 hrs.

The vegetarian food is good as we all were veggies. The hotel does not have a gym. It came as a boon as running in the landscape there was one experience I will never forget.

In all I would love to return to this hotel.

the capital city of thimpu has few hotels and riverview is certainly not the kind anyone should stay. it is ok for a night stay at the most, if offered for free. the hotel is located close to the city center market and has a nice view from the room balcony. that is where it all ends. the rooms in terms of cleanliness is average. but the rooms and the hotel as a whole needs a facelift.the rooms are have that very early 1980's modest look and is not worth the money you spend. room service is very slow. you wl have to order almost an hour ahead even for snacks. the food is not good.

This hotel was almost at the 4-out-of-5 level for me. First of all, we liked the location, right across the river from central Thimphu but quieter (no dog noises we could hear) and with great views of the town across the river. Our room had a balcony, which was great for soaking up the view and taking pictures.

The staff was not particularly friendly but was efficient. They certainly were helpful in getting our luggage up and down from the fourth floor--no elevator. Our room had a standard, three-star hotel "look." This is not necessarily a bad thing. The bathrooms, however, were very outdated. And in March, the rooms were very cold--the heater provided was not up to heating the (rather large) room, and the concrete building made it colder inside than it was outside.

We only experienced the restaurant at breakfast, when there was a limited but tasty buffet of Western and Indian options. Overall, this was a fine choice for our night in Thimphu.
