“Happy with my stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Galingkha is a clean, well located property right in the heart of Thimphu. It's nothing to blow your mind, but it's not a place you can complain about either. I wasn't expecting top of the line ambience or 5-star service standards - for the price, it's very decent value. The rooms are fairly large, comfortable and clean. My room (401) had mostly everything you'd require and a great view of the street below and mountains in the distance. Room service was fairly quick, the food I ordered was definitely decent (again, nothing to rave about, but good), and the hotel was quiet and allowed me decent sleep.
All in all, I'd recommend it to travellers looking for a no-nonsense, clean, value for money hotel, that doesn't necessarily 'delight' them - but which doesn't give opportunities for complaints either. It hasn't got the 'character' of a boutique hotel, but its functional, clean and good value for money, apart from being well located.

Room Tip: If you can't climb stairs, stay on the 1st or 2nd floor, the hotel doesn't have an elevator!

The Hotel is located right on the main signal of Thimpu. With great view of the magnificent view of the mountain. With a great two multiple window concept as to relax in ambience and feel blissed just to look at the mountain and the calm streets in the nights. One of the best property in Thimpu easily accessible to all the important offices if you are going on a business trip.
I had pleasure of the receiving the fantastic reception and subsequently my stay was more delighting thanks to great hospitality of the hotel management and it's staff.

We stayed here for 1 night in November 2012. The hotel has very comfortable rooms which are spotlessly clean.
The restaraunt food was good and service was fine.
We did not notice any problems with barking dogs at night.
I think this is an excellent choice for a central Thimpu hotel which is covered under the normal Bhutanese tourist allocation.

I think this ought to be the best place i stayed in Bhutan (everything else just pales after that IMHO). Rooms are modest but really clean befitting for a 3 stars hotel and breakfast is decent. Our guide brought us to many good restaurants around instead of dining in the hotel. There are convenient stores around to stock up if you need any. Free Wifi connectivity in the hotel. Was not affected by barking dogs or traffic during my 2 nights stay.

My second time in this hotel this year. This time I stayed 9 nights. It is very well located in Thimphu and close to shopping area. The rooms are nice, comfortable, and very clean. Very good service overall, and the staff (reception, restaurant, and housekeeping... and the owner!) is very friendly and efficient. Food is okay, but you have many other options in the area. I really enjoyed my stay here and I will come back for sure. Yes, dogs are barking, but not all the night. As far as I understood, it is a common issue anywhere in town. Do forget your ear plugs, it helps a lot! I recommend it +++

I spent three nights in the Galingkha. First of all, it is located right at the traffic circle and very near (3 minute walk) to Clocktower Square in downtown Thimphu. Shopping is adjacent and everywhere around this hotel.

In general the hotel was very clean. The restaurant served excellent continental and Chinese cuisine and is located near the front door. Staff in the restaurant and front desk were eager to please and readily available. There is free (included) wireless internet available as well as a business center at the top of the stairs on the first floor. Good clean bathrooms near the front desk.

The room was immaculate. Large flat screen TV with decent programming (some western news channels and movie channels), wood floors, large windows, and portable radiator heat (it was December) was more than adequate. The bathroom was excellent with a large hot water heater. Beds were very comfortable (western style with thick mattresses) and had very nice pillows. There was no safe in the room but hey, this is Bhutan and crime is very rare anyways.

Biggest noise factor is not the traffic, it's the nocturnal dogs. I slept through most if not all of the barking and found it more amusing than annoying as there might be as many as 30 dogs barking at the same time- only at night, never during the day (they're all sleeping during the day). Barking dogs are just part of your Bhutan adventure. If it bothers you, bring and use ear plugs, get over it, or maybe Bhutan isn't for you.

Room Tip: I had room 104 which is facing the front of the hotel. There were only maybe two other rooms on thi...

The Galinka hotel is right in the middle of Thimpu. Great location but it has the same issue as all the hotels in the middle of town - and that is night noise. In particular barking dogs. Also the quality of the food in 2012 was not as good as 2010. In fact it was quite poor. Especially the breakfast which was pathetic.
