“nice hotel, quiet, very friendly and helpful people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013

nice hotel, a little bit outside of the center, quiet(apart from the dogs which barked the whole night, but they are allover Bhutan), very nice and helpful staff, good food, especilly the braeakfast was excellent and fresh.
This is not a mainstream hotel but a hotel with high individual service!!

We were in Bhutan Suites for 2 nights and in my opinion this is the best hotel (in term of amenities and room quality) that I have ever stayed (of course leaving out the 5 and the 7 stars like Taj). The rooms were very big and spacious. There is a separate drawing and dining space. Amenities included floor heating, kitchen with all the bare minimal utensils, refrigerator (good for those who are planning to stay for extended periods), marble flooring in the bathrooms, separate bathtubs and places for taking bath, 100 ltr geyser. All the electrical sockets and lights (incl the bed side table lights) were in perfect working condition. The cuisine was great and the food was palatable. The staff were very gentle and polite.
One small minus: The restaurant only servers vegetarian food. For non-vegetarians the only option is egg related menu items. The hotel does not serve any chicken/fish/mutton/pork/beef related items. For us this did not present a major challenge and hence we enjoyed. Another minor aspect is that the rooms in Bhutan Suites (unlike the ones in the Riverview Hotel where we had stayed for a night) do not have a particularly great view of the Thimphu city or the mountains as would usually be the case in many hotels in a hill station.

I must say, I had some expectations of the hotel before we arrived (as this was an upgrade from the standard 3-star local hotel through the tour agency) and although the room itself was very spacious, it was a little bit more basic than I expected. It was also located a bit away from Thimphu town and you will need to take a taxi or get your driver to send you to Thimphu town if you want to spend sometime there in the evening. It was actually for this reason that I had booked this hotel as I had read from other hotel reviews located in town that barking dogs are common at night and I'm a light sleeper. Unfortunately, this problem presented itself at Bhutan Suites as well. I understand these are stray dogs and the Bhutanese can't really do much about it, so I guess I didn't stay far away enough from the town! So, if you are like me, a light sleeper, ear plugs are a must in Bhutan!

As mentioned, the room was very spacious. It had a mini kitchenette, a spacious living room and spacious bathroom and bedroom. We had a very nice view of Thimphu valley from our room as the hotel is located slightly up a small hill. The room does have basic bathroom amenities and satellite TV channels to help you stay connected with the rest of the world.

We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel and in my opinion, the breakfast was better than the dinners they served. Just a note to readers, their restaurant does not serve meat and we only realized this after our first dinner there and took a more detailed review of their menu. They do serve eggs, but that's about the only "meat" dish they have.

Service staff and the front desk were generally friendly and competent, and most of them speak English. I really wouldn't consider them boutique by international standards, but comparing to some of the local establishments, they are above average.

The Bhutan Suites is located away from town within a neighborhood. The rooms are a nice size with a living room and kitchenette. The employees do their best to help you and keep the rooms clean. However, the rooms are dated.

Although the hotel does not have traffic noise, it does have non-stop barking dogs throughout the evening. If this type of noise bothers you, I would strongly suggest you stay somewhere else.

The food is all vegetarian, which is totally fine. Do not expect anything exciting, especially at breakfast: basic cold eggs and toast.

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor. Although you will still hear the barking dogs, you may have a chance to nod o...

Me and my husband spent two nights at Bhutan Suites - 6th and 8th October nights.
It was perfect. We had been allocated room no.202 and it was huge. It is more like a suite, with one room with a sitting area, a functional kitchen and a balcony too, which overlooks a school at a far away distance. In the mornings, you can hear the children sing their anthem, and their chatter till school starts.

The food is not really great but the cook did take a lot of effort to make the right food though we (Indians) found it to be too bland. The Bhutanese food is good though.

We highly recommend this hotel for your stay at Thimpu.

Room Tip: Take room no.202 or the one above it... they are the best and quietest though there is no escape, no...

Room is huge with separate lounge, small kitchen (equipped with fridge, electric kettle and large washing basin) and balcony with a view of Thimphu Valley. Staff are friendly and arrival tea/coffee with muffins are served in restaurant for everyday of the stay. The restaurant is vegetarian and enough choice for breakfast on a 2-nights stay. For dinner, limited choice though. Our tour guide took us to a decent restaurant nearby (walk up to Changangkha Lhakhang and turn right) for lunch one day and I wouldn't mind having dinner out there for a change.

This little hotel was a great surprise. With modern rooms and toilets in a super nice area of Thimphu (away from the noise of the traffic and without many barking dogs, it was perfect for two days stay. The service was very good, and the hotel has a good restaurant and a lovely caffé/bar, with balcony and a view to the mountains. Thr breakfast was also very good, specially the scones.

Room Tip: Try to get in the higher floor rooms.
