North Luangwa Valley is a lovely remote are to visit. You need to expect little services, rough dirt roads, dry river crossings (only go in the dry season), heat, tetse flies, basic food at any accomodation and then it will be magic. Animals abound, the elephant population is recovering and the security in the park is tight. We stayed both on the boundaries at private campsites managed by Zambian Dawn Safaris and at Buffalo camp. The memories will be treasured and we felt really remote. This is an adventure for the brave but it isn't too technically challenging ig you have a decent 4x4. The roads within the park were far better maintained than anticipated and outside the park were ok, but patience and attentiveness was required.
The scrub is reasonably thick so seeing the animals can be a little difficult and definitely not on the scale of savannah style game viewing. But close encounters are a definite, if a little scarey at times. A fantastic place if you make the effort to get out off the standard tourist trail.
