“Great Guest House, Terrible Internet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2014

This is the best guest house I have stayed at in the Kampala area! Comfortable rooms, good breakfast, and very friendly and accommodating staff. Last time we were here (November of 2013) the Internet was almost non-existant. We were assured that this time it was fixed, but it is still barely usable. If you need the Internet for business or to stay in touch with home, you should stay elsewhere. Otherwise, I highly recommend this guest house!

This is a basic and simple guest house based not too far from the airport. It is basically a stop gap between adventure and airport, and due to its city location it maintains simple standards. Many people working for local charities use this as a base. Beds are singles in the main and covered in mosquito nets (something you'll get use to during any trip to Uganda). It has a hot shower and if you are doing a budget or even mid range trip, make the most of hot showers when you can.
But the food is great and cheap. For $10 a head, you get a great home cooked dinner. Superb! And the hospitality is always with a smile ... At 1am and at 5am. Thanks Anne.

We stayed at this property at the beginning and end of our Uganda trip. On arrival it was mid-night, yet the staff greeted us and showed us to our room. It was basic, but consisted of two single beds, with mosquito nets, and shower ensuite. After just 5 hours we were all back up and again the staff were there to serve us breakfast. I have to admit, I left with a neutral view of this property, but that was changed when we returned and were able to experience it in the day too. We had a warm welcome back and spending time in the communal lounge and having dinner it felt very homely. The dinner was local cuisine, so gave us a chance to try things in a safe setting and the free WiFi was a link to the technology world after 9 days offline. With a gated front and full-time security guard, it felt safe and was conveniently located to a local supermarket.

I have stayed at Adonai since 2011 and always find it to be functional and clean. The atmosphere is "homey", meals are "home-cooked" and very good. Breakfast is quite good and included in the rate. The evening meal is extra and must be ordered in advance. Wifi is very good throughout. I think the rooms have a bit too much furniture. Location is fine but there is nothing to do in the area. Note thast rates are per person (USD35) not per room.

Note that there are two Adonai Houses, 'Adonai 1' in Muyenga and 'Adonai 2' in Rubaga. Trip Advisor doesn't differentiate between them.

I spent 5 nights at Adonai 1 and for the price they charge it was really excellent value. The owner and staff are very welcoming, the optional evening meals were great and the room was fine for the price, basic but comfortable. I turned up at the wrong Adonai House and this wasn't a problem - they found a room for me anyway.

It's worth pointing out that this is a small, personalised guest house and you will mixing with the other guests and dining together. The majority of the visitors seem to be missionary groups from Europe and the USA, so if that's not your style, you have been warned...!

We stayed at the Adonai Guesthouse #1. Sarah and her team made us feel very welcome and fortunately also managed to accomodate our last minute request for an extra room. The place is simple but homey, had lots of hot water and made great breakfasts. A big plus for me... Lots of good coffee in the morning! Their Wifi was down during our stay, but as it was the same in a nearby webcafe, it was likely a provider issue that they had no control over. Fans and mosquito nets in the rooms and a lovely well-tended garden one can look out over while sitting on the terrace. This was a nice find and we left happy with having chosen the place. Very good value for what you're paying. A little hard to find, but as we had them arrange an airport pickup for us, it wasn't a problem for us to get there. The rental car with driver we hired the next day had a bit of a hard time though. A few extra signs out on the room wouldn't be a bad idea.

We stayed four nights in this beatiful guesthouse in Rubaga district, which used to be Adonai house 3, but as we were told, it is house 2 now. It became our base in capital city and we enjoyed really beatiful times. Warm welcome, wery pleasant and helpful staff (especially lady called Susan) and simple, but clean, comfortable and cosy rooms. Price isn't too high for Kampala and our house was situated in qute calm district (but You are in Africa, so expect at least some noise during nights), which, on the other hand, is not far away from the city centre and You can visit almost all important places in Kampala in one whole day walk. Breakfast was in the price and You can order a dinner, which was a real feast. Sitting in the armchair, reading a book and looking at the sunset was one from my most favourite activities during evenings.
