Description: Prunes introduces the first concept eatery in Kampala, bringing together taste, experience, freshness and design. It was created to gather the cosmopolitan community of Kampala and invite people to enjoy local, fresh produce. At Prunes, we offer an authentic experience through our healthy menu, as well as friendly atmosphere. We are focused on detail and quality: our house blend coffee is tested and approved by Africa’s barista champion, who has also trained our staff. Ingredients come freshly picked from various farms and the cupcakes are known to be mouthwatering. Our garden provides a break from the busy streets of Kampala and ensures a quiet, relaxed dining experience for our clients. Prunes also offers catering services as well as events and meetings facilities, with free wi-fi. Take aways and deliveries are also available, making us the ideal choice for 'on the go' people. Come check us out on Wampewo Avenue, next to the Kololo Airstrip.

“Magnificent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013 via mobile

Prunes is awesome, I like the food and drinks, the environment too but the very out standing thing is the support they give to the community. Prunes Cafe is in partnership with Kitenge Africa Foundation. (www.kitengeafrica.com www.facebook/kitengeafrica www.twitter.com/kitengeafrica ) A grass root charity working to assist Orphans and Vulnerable Children including the Homeless ones.

In 2012, the management of
Prunes Cafe sponsored a fundraiser at the restaurant that assisted the charity to buy a piece of land out side of town to have 30 vulnerable children resettled there.

That is spectacular of Prunes Cafe, when you support Prunes, you have indirectly supported a vulnerable child somewhere.

“Nice atmosphere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

We went for a Saturday morning brunch. The food was ok - but not a Brunch!
The market in the garden was small - but great.

“good but pricey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

This is a small cafe-type restaurant but with higher prices. The food is more American style for lunch menu, at least. It was good, but not spectacular. The outdoor seating is varied, with good seats near the building, and precarious seats on the lawn area, where chair legs sink into the wet grass. My friends had fruit slushies which later made them sick, so be careful if you don't know where they get their water from, if water is added to the drinks. I had a beer, and had no problems. The sandwiches were large, good to eat and we had a pleasant conversation together there. If you miss eating American type food/sandwiches, this might be a place to try.

“Relaxed cafe vibe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

The much touted Saturday market was nice but nothing too special. The ambiance is relaxed; a nice place to hang-out - although a few more comfy chairs wouldn't go amiss. The food looked pretty good; we just juiced which were good, not special. A good place to stop by if you're in the neighbourhood.

“Love, love, love Prunes!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

The first time I went last year, to go to the Saturday market, I was rather sceptical. They were serving coffee in plastic cups from a small terrace because the premises wasn't yet open. There were only a handful of seats, which were fully occupied and I didn't fancy wandering round with my hot coffee.

Today, the business has developed into a real attraction! We have been for breakfast, brunch, lunch after Church, Saturday coffees, birthday dinner (delicious cous cous!), mid-morning coffee, business meets... you name it.

I love the way that the furniture moving makes it so versatile to accommodate the patrons. If you are a large group, no problem tables pulled together; put on the grass; umbrellas up - whatever you want.

I also appreciate the fact that if I see two things on the menu, eg, wraps with 3 types of fillings, that I don't want, and sandwiches with other fillings that I do - I can request that filling to go in the wrap. This doesn't seem like it should be remarkable, but it is - so often in Kampala you are told "it is not possible.." when you ask for something to be changed.

The fresh juices are very innovative, and range from very healthy to the fully-loaded delicious smoothies!

Yes, the service can be a tad on the slow side at times, but you get friendly service and good quality in a quirky atmosphere (check out the bathrooms!) And this is also the only place that I enjoy coffee in Kampala, perfect, not too strong, and their packaged coffee makes excellent presents too!
