“A Fine Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

This hotel is definitely adequate and served its purpose for our work/volunteer purposes quite nicely. The rooms are comfortable and the food is ok. The shower was fabulous. It was extremely difficult to get ahold of one of the hotel's hair dryers (one time it took three days), requiring multiple phone calls and many, many broken promises, so definitely bring a travel hair dryer meant for any voltage and an adaptor. Indeed, they would always take the hair dryer right back, too. But there are lots of comfortable public working spaces and it's safe and overall comfortable. Don't count on fast wi-fi though.

Room Tip: Face east to get the sunrise.

This is a huge hotel situated next to the centre of Kampala(10 mins walk) It is very secure and hosts a large number of business conferences which sees a lot of life during the day. There is a roof top swimming pool which is open air and very good with attached health studio. The food is good, breakfasts are buffet but African style (veg curry, etc) The staff are very helpful and the rooms are large and restful.Free Wi Fi also is a bonus.

However in the evening the hotel is 'dead' no life or hardly a sound. It seems to lack a soul. There is no 'bar' life or throb to the evening . taxis are easy to get, $40 to airport.
ther is no forex and if you need to change money go to a forex in the city centre , there are lots. Dont use the ones situated at hotels as they scam money of you by saying your bills are too small or out of date so they have to give you a lower exchange than they advertise.Oh and if you area lady wear flat shoes the footpaths in kampala are tough to walk on and heels would be dangerous.

Room Tip: My room overlooked the pooland had a great view but on the down side there was a finction on one nig...

The hotel has spacious rooms and the staff are extremely friendly. Its a place which I stay regularly whenever I am in Kampala. They have a state of art gym, swimming pool, sauna and steam on the fifth floor. its not far from the city centre and its highly secured.

Room Tip: Any room is nice, however if you can get the rooms located along the wings on 9th floor it can not b...

I have on previous visits stayed at their sister hotel The Grand Imperial down the road. I thought I will give this a try for a 6 night stay. The hotel is clearly quite big but occupancy appears quite low - may be I was there during a low season. The rooms are large and loads of space. Beds were comfortable but the rest of the furniture looks old and dated. The bathroom was big and good shower with excellent water pressure . The room had a fridge and a safe for keeping valuable which was a great plus.
The general lighting everywhere in the hotel looks poor and quite dark in almost all the areas. I expected the reception area and other public areas to be well lit and inviting, but not so. The reception staff certainly need some training lessons in customer care. This hotel was quite busy during the day with business events and conferences etc.
Breakfast was very good with a wide selection but quite dark inside. Didn't have any dinner in this hotel but ordered room service once. Thought it was a bit pricy.
The hotel had a good gym and pool but I did not get the opportunity to try them.

Room Tip: Request a room on the upper floors - 8 or higher and facing the Serena if possible

You can always guarantee getting a room in this vast hotel but that it is the problem. It is too large to have any character. While the rooms are fine it is pricey and the restaurant and public spaces are devoid of any interest.

I stayed at the Imperial Royal for 4 nights recently, on a work trip. This was a conference and the hotel housed both the participants and the actual conference sessions. Hotel drops and pickups from/to the airport worked fine.

The hotel is enormous and seems largely empty. The rooms are vast - I mean truly /vast/ - with huge empty spaces between pieces of furniture, and the (large screen) TV so far away from the bed that my middle-aged eyes had trouble watching anything at all. Better furnishings and decor could have made having a large hotel room into a real treat, but it felt more like rattling around in a huge, dimly lit, slightly musty cavern - not at all inviting. The whole hotel consists of these large, mostly empty, poorly lit spaces - rooms, corridors, restaurant...

The rooms are clean enough, sheets and towels spotless, and a brilliant shower - plentiful hot water and good water pressure. The room key did stop working every now and again - trekking all the way down from the 7th or 8th or 9th floor is a bit of a pain. The service was terrible - people were nice enough but everything took a long, long, looooong time - from getting a sandwich to having the air conditioning fixed. Restaurant food was tolerable but not especially good.

The conference facilities were just fine, though - as others have said this hotel seems to cater more to meetings and conferences, with large numbers of people coming to events but not actually staying there. Seems well located although I didn't have much opportunity to see the rest of the city.

I would definitely /not/ choose to stay here again, especially if I were a tourist.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for having visited and stayed with us at the Imperial Royale Hotel!

We have noted your compliments with much thanks and promise that we shall work on the flaws that could have inconvenienced your stay.

The key card system of the hotel is electronically controlled and its the same key that controls the lighting of your room, the television and the air conditioning. After opening your room, slot the key card on the right upper lane, its just right next to the switches, once slotted in the lights,Television and air conditioning will automatically turn on. You can then manually switch off whatever you may not need at that moment..if the key is removed from the key card slot then you will have to manually switch on the lighting, air conditioning and the Television. Note if and when the key card is placed near a mobile handset it demagnetizes the encoding. Always feel free to dial the intercom and request for assistance to avoid the hussle of moving up and down the lifts.

We have various room categories that can best meet individual needs with different desires. We take very much interest to cater for the disability. Guests are free to choose a room of their category, choice and convenience.

The Imperial Royale Hotel is a convention center and hence hosts several workshops and Conference on a daily basis. Thats why you noticed that there were sevral meetings with large numbers.

We will be humbled to host you again as a repeat guest and your feedback is most appreciated.
