One of the great experiences when visiting Lomé is shopping in the outdoor marketplace. Plenty of differnent types of merchants to barter with. Have to be both open minded and alert when entering this area. Lots of people tends to increase the likelyhood of unsavory individuals. Still most people are friendly and open when dealing with tourists. Just keep in mind that bartering is part of their livelihood and you have to negotiate to get the best price.
Must admit I was a little uncomfortable my first time but quickly learned to enjoy this truly authentic African shopping experience.
