“Disappointed and frustated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

My stay was a disaster at the end. On arrival I could not find my reservation ...For a 4* hotel which receives many businessmen, people for workshop, the rooms medium are not too well lighted and the needs such as iron, ironing board, large towels, body milk are missing.
While the staff is friendly but some are very rude as the receptionist who shout on the customer because he said to paid a bill for a colleague the day after the leave of a colleague when this customer still in the hotel during 03 nights after this departure, despite the surprise of the other customers, absolutely amazing ..... As we are in Africa, maybe it's a relative of a local official??
Despite of these hic, the staff throughout are friendly and helpful. Hotel is well located and nice overall even though I dind't understand the adjoining with Ibis.
If I may suggest, the management should refresh or make customer service training for staff.

I had a very nice stay at the hotel. The rooms were comfortable, clean, quiet, great showers and air conditioning. The free breakfast was a bargain and diverse in food choices. My only complaint was the running scramble eggs, but that is more of a personal preference. The lunch buffet was great. As. Pescatarian I was always on the hunt for veggies during my meals and found plenty at the buffet. There are no irons in the room and guest have to pay to have their clothes ironed. That was a bit of a bummer. The staff was professional and helpful. Very friendly. I was curious about the lower priced rooms at the Ibis next door and will check them out when I travel to Dakar again.

A great 3.5/4 star hotel that I keep coming back to when in Dakar. Modern, clean, comfortable, reasonably priced and extremely well located, the Novotel is one of the better hotels in Dakar. The newly renovated swimming pool and outside lounge area has a relaxed non pretentious ambience giving way to hours of reading (or working) over a gin and tonic without a care in the world. The staff are friendly, and whilst the breakfast menu could be improved, their local fish and rice (thiéboudienne) dish is the best in Dakar. Believe me, I've sampled them all - in hotels and local restaurants, and I keep coming back to this one. The rooms are big, clean, and comfortable. The hotel is within walking distance to other restaurants, to craft markets and the town centre. So, if you can't afford the Radison Blu, then stay here.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room, even though the windows are small, but at least you get a glimpse of light a...

I stayed in this hotel for over three weeks during a recent business trip.

Pro's
- Clean and tidy
- Free Wifi and network connections in room
- Friendly staff
- nice pool area, good for relaxing
- Some excellent restaurants close by (Lagon 1 and La Fourchet)

Cons
- Food is acceptable, but menu is limited
- a long way from anywhere in Dakar, except the port. You will need to use one of the dodgy taxi's to visit other places
- If you try to walk anywhere, you are constantly pestered by street hawkers
- no Gym
I would recommend this place for a short stay - a week max. If you are in Dakar longer, try the Pullman (Accor hotel, just like the Novotel) or the Radisson Blu.

Room Tip: Insist on one of the even-numbered rooms that looks over the pool and the sea

The Novotel is centrally located in the city of Dakar yet right on the ocean. It is convenient for business and currently probably the nicest hotel if you want to be in the center of Dakar. It's sister hotel IBIS is located next store and if you want a better bang for the buck stay there.

I arrived late at night and check in was extremely slow. The room was very basic with a refrigerator and bottled water. Bed was ok but hard, and bathroom was small (toilet in separate closet). Nice views of the Atlantic Ocean out the hotel window. The breakfast buffet was madness with few places to sit and dirty tables left uncleaned. Trying to get coffee was a challenge too. The quality was ok and I did like the creamed portabello mushrooms. The bar was slammed during Happy Hour with nice cocktails but very slow service. Hotel was very secure behind a gate and had a nice pool area. As the choices are limited in Dakar, this one will work for a short business trip. And the hotel is quite pricey.

This is not a luxury hotel but the staff are excellent; they checked me in very early (7am) and were more than helpful with locating taxis and communicating with drivers. The only downside was the food: breakfast was ok but sandwiches on the outside patio were terrible.
