“Excellence is in the Details”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

The hotel was fantastic.

The general location, decor, and offering was brilliant. It's a beautiful seafront property with very excellent architecture and decor and an amazing staff.

The only reason why I do not give it 5 stars is because there are minute details that got overlooked. For example, the windows in the "garden view" rooms cant' open completely because they knock against the curtain skirting. And other tiny little this and thats. My other major issue is that there is no garden to view. If you're staying there, face the ocean or spend your time outside your room.

Once out of the room though, you can see the thought that went into the hotel. The top-down architecture (lobby is on the top floor, rooms are below that) with the massive dangling chandelier and beautiful spiralling staircase are a great touch. The entire layout of the outside area is brilliant. The only little hitch here is some of the seating area is right outside certain people's rooms. Which can be amazing or bad. Amazing because, if you have one of those, your view is spectacular and you can walk straight out, and take a few steps into the bar and the infinity pool. But bad because if someone decides to sit outside your room and have a loud drunken conversation, you need to shut them up.

But this did not happen while we were there. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a touch of lux in Dakar. Excellent service, fantastic location, excellent facilities, great ambiance, great views.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms that are not on the ground floor.

This hotel is sober and rich at the same time. The luster to the reception till the floor is beautiful.
I enjoyed the variety of dishes every day, ranging from breakfast to dinner, but one hic, no senegalese food. The staff is very friendly and helpful especially those of the restaurant.
Specificities: The front desk is upstairs and bedrooms are downstairs
Strengths: the ironing board, iron, hair dryer, slippers, large fluffy towels and spacious rooms.
Weaknesses: the shuttle despite the willingness of the driver can not take more than 06 people, the staff should consider acquiring a second one, no soundproof rooms of sea side, very difficult because at night very difficult to rest and sleep. It's an hotel to advise for a short or long stay.

Room Tip: Chambres loin de la piscine et de l'aire des concerts et spectacles

I spent a long weekend (3 nights) at the Radisson Blu Dakar at the end of a month-long business trip during which I stayed elsewhere in the city. So moving to the Radisson Blu was to change scenery and go a bit more upscale since my wife was joining me as well. I had visited the place for lunch a couple of times in the previous month, so it wasn't a complete unknown. I can't comment on how it is as a business hotel, but as a weekend break hotel it was pretty good.

Positive aspects: all the things you'd expect of a fairly new Radisson Blu -- excellent pool area and pool service, separate cabanas overlooking the ocean along the hotel's shoreline, good, reliable Wi-Fi, an attached modern two-level shopping centre with large grocery store (a Casino) and small food court, hotel spa, good proximity to airport and city centre but not in a built-up area, very quiet in rooms despite being on a major city road and directly under final approach into the international airport, highly efficient staff (example: our bed squeaked terribly at even the slightest touch; we mentioned this to the desk and within 10 minutes they had a maintenance team there to completely replace all the joints in the undercarriage of the bed - problem solved!)

Less positive aspects: the staff are 'friendly in a minimalist way', not quite the same level of friendliness found at the Sokhamon Hotel, for instance; the breakfast is vastly overpriced if not included in the room price - but the shopping centre's food court has a patisserie only slightly further away; there's quite a bit of construction on-site right now as they add another wing to the hotel, could be a concern if your room's closer than mine was.

Next time in in Dakar for a month, I will try to stay at the Radisson Blu to see what the long-term verdict is.

Room Tip: Although I wasn't in one, I'd be reluctant to take a ground floor room on the ocean side; th...

A great view from the hotel to the Ocean from the Pool, superb location. Its surely upmarket, with a friendly staff, Not much of the local market nearby you need to travel by car. Since its a leisure hotel / location, expect service at the same levels. Facility - rich.

The hotel is nicely located on the coast, just south of the airport. Great views, and nice architecture. Now we come to the terrible part, service, front desk check in was a nightmare, getting room service took over 2 hours, and had to cancel it cause when it came it was not what I ordered. Checking out took over 30 minutes, why? Not really sure. It is sad cause the hotel is actually nice. There are not that many good choices in Dakar, that's apparently why they just do not care about customer service.

Fab hotel and one of the best pools I have been in. The food is excellent and the staff could not do enough to help. I was travelling alone on business but next time I will take my partner along to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere throughout

An upmarket hotel, at upmarket prices, but overall value for money. A beautiful location, on the coast, with scenic aspects from the pool, although not immediately close to either the centre of town or the airport. The restaurant was superb - I have never experienced such a great selection of French cheeses at the breakfast bar! The conference room was a windowless basement, which was not ideal. The rooms were very well equipped, generously sized and comfortable - but bring your own long-life milk and tea-bags if you are not into black percolated coffee! The wi-fi internet connection in the room was weak and not working most of the time - the main reason I would hesitate to stay here again.

Dear JohnCharles53,
Thank you very much for sharing on Tripadvisor, your comments regarding your stay with us.
We really apologize for the internet issue. Unfortunately, we sometime experience problems with insufficient supply from our local provider.
Despite the Nespresso coffee service on the working desk in Business Class rooms, a tea service is available in all guestrooms. A tray on top of the minibar contains tea, hot chocolate, milk, sugar and Nescafe together with an electric teapot, cups, glasses, bottle opener and an ice bucket.
We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the restaurant service and we look forward to welcome you back very soon for a new experience in our hotel.
Best regards,

Jorgen
