“Heaven in the City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

Enjoyed a night at the Serena, in between Masai Mara and Rwanda gorilla trekking. Nice hotel. Good service. Pretty good food. An upscale hotel that is worth a stay. Lovely pool. Fair outdoor furniture off the room.

Room Tip: We were on the first floor, right down the hall from the bar, for one night. It was just fine.

Nice restaurant, stunning courtyard with pool. Decent bar. Not cheap but very luxurious. Only 30 minutes from airport. Nice packed breakfast supplied for early leavers. Well staffed. Probably best hotel in Kigali.

This is a very nice hotel, it was not what I have expected for an African hotel. The people were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our one night stay here before we moved on to see the mountain gorillas. The food was tasty and the fresh juices were delicious. We plan on returning to Rwanda in. Couple of years and would stay here and no where else. Thank you to all for making our stay very special.

I've stayed at the Serena twice. Nice hotel, probably the best one in Kigali. Had trouble the first time I checked in. Was told even though they had my reservation they didn't have a room for me. They wanted to move me to a lesser hotel. Refused to go and after an hour sitting in their lobby they found me a room, a very nice room at that!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool. Rooms are quieter.

My fourth stay at Serena Kigali over the last 2 years and keeps getting better. The last set of renovations have transformed the lobby/main areas and the superior room finally beats the Serena Kampala; book early enough - worth the extra cost. Spacious rooms overlooking the pool with everything just right. Only wish thy had the balconies that one enjoys in Kampala. Great breakfast and wonderful service at all times. Lunch and dinner at the hotel ok but not stunning, however, Kigali has much to offer in the evenings so adventure out. Finally, Serena have achieved what they set out to deliver when they started the refurbishment. Serena Nairobi? Need to style up to the level of the Kigali and Kampala units.

My wife and I stayed here twice on the bookends of a wonderful trip to Rwanda. Even though my wife booked the room well in advance, we were told upon our arrival that there were no rooms available, and we would have to stay in another hotel for the first night. We were assured that there were absolutely no rooms, and we had no options, but unlike the other parties who were told the same thing, we stood our ground and plunked down in the lobby with no intention of moving. Lo and behold, after an hour of revisiting the desk and demanding a room, one magically appeared; a real nice one at that! Once past that hurdle, we found the staff, accommodations, food and service to be very, very good. If you're lucky, you'll get a room on the second floor with a walk out balcony overlooking the pool. DONT settle for another hotel for the first night; camp in the lobby until they give in!

Room Tip: There are a handful of rooms with walk balconies facing the pool, but even the street side rooms off...

This is another hotel of Serena Group that is based in Eastern Africa and is now expanding into other parts of Africa. This hotel is in the safe part of Kigali and is a very nice hotel with very attentive staff. Unlike some other hotels in the city it is air-conditioned and very comfortable. The food is excellent and fresh and the restaurant staff are very helpful. Dinner in particular is worth having even if you are not staying at the hotel. The rooms are comfortable and cosy but not over spacious. As is the case in all parts of Kigali, security is still very tight including this Serena property.
